Samuel Adams 1790 Root Beer Brew

Pours a hazy orange with a nice frothy off-white head. Smells strongly of licorice, sassafras, and maybe some ginger. Very dominant licorice flavor fading to sassafras, mint and a touch of pine. Nice smooth medium mouth feel. A decently crafted beer, but unfortunately I’m not a big fan of licorice.

Bottle, well, this brew is definately filled with root beer, a some what natural tasting addition, not horrific but not great. A bit hard to drink definately not more than one bottle. Better than Hueberts by miles but definately not drinkable as an option by itself.

Light brown pour, fully expected something great from this offering. What hit me next was a horrible licorice aroma, like a large glass of Jaeger. Dark copper pour, I drink just about anything, this was tough.

(Bottle) Pours a light brown with very little head. Horrible herbal minty taste from start to finish. Tastes a bit like stale, flat root beer. I am surprised Sam Adams would market such a poor tasting product. By far the worst brew in the Patriot Pack.

Murky red color with a thin head. The wintergreen and licorice aroma is intense and pours out a long ways away from the glass. Sweet monkey crap! The taste is horrific! Spicy, peppery slury mixed with salad greens. It’s an interesting idea, but this attempt is terrible.

This is a very weird one. Strange aroma with sweet rootbeer, red pepper, smoke and some other strange stuff. Wow I am almost afraid to try this. Really reminds of a chipotle brew. Oh god, this is horrible. Tastes like sweet flat root beer with red pepper throuwn in. Who is gods name came up with this combination. Smokey, yeech! Ok, drain pour!

Smells fantastic, richly of sweet root beer and vanilla and spice. The head was fluffy at first then disappeared and the glass was filled with unnerving floaties since it’s unfiltered. It’s a thorough flavor for sure, but it’s crap. I gave it a second sip to be sure. Then a third. Yup, it’s awful. There won’t be a fourth sip, this one is going down the drain. Too bad, I love Boston Lager and the other three in this pack were pretty decent.

Found the aroma to be a little offenseive at first, smelling like coffee syrup. As i drank it a more woody aroma developed. It seemed to have a nice woody character in the flavor too with nice sweet molassas notes. Some vanilla notes in the finish.
