Sampled at the 2005 EBF: Pours a hazy cloudy dark copper with a frothy off-white head. Rich yeasty, esthery aroma with nice sweet wheaty balance. Tart wheaty and complex body with a little too much acidity. Nice authenticity though and a good beer from Sam Adams. I don’t know why they don’t make this in bigger batches and bottle it, but perhaps there isn’t much of a market for it.

Pears, peaches, bananas, and wheat with a whiff of alcohol in the aroma. Opaque orange- brown with thin white head that recedes to ring. Intensely sweet fruit flavours with some wheat bite and a light sourness compounding the bitterness in the finish. Light refreshing body with engaging carbonation that prickles the tongue. Odd, interesting and not at all what I was expecting. Sampled at the Extreme Beer Festival 2005.

Draft, EBF: Cloudy orange. Strong cookie paste aroma mixes into a fruit salad and honey candies to propose a moderately sweet and juicy mixture. Strong biscuity malt though not in a helles manner. Elegant wheat chunks bring german claims that are quickly overtaken by peppery belgian yeast. Powdery melon and fruits bring some depth into this unpredictable baker’s choice. Superb dessert beer, highly carbonated, foamy and texture. Totally untraditional and as experimental as it gets. Excellent.

Sample at XBF:

The Lure:
Peach cream and an alcohol waft from a banana daiquiri. Enticing if not linear.

The Festivities:
A predominantly sweet and fat malt body proffers peaches, alcohol and a canned fruit salad syrup. Ending is very bitter, carbonation and sweetness are puzzling for the style.

AOBF ’04: Pours a chunky, cloudy, orange/peach hue. Apricot, banana, clovey, apple must, yeast nose. Small yellow/white-ish head. Extremely sweet, very estery, big bananas, more funky cloves, nice body, finishing faintly acidic and terribly sweet. Interesting to say the least. They say this may go into next years X-Mas sampler...We will see.

AOBF 2004 Draught. Probably my second or third favorite at the festival. Pours a deep peach/apricot orange with some light rusty brown hues on the edges. Small yellow-beige head, moderately hazy. Aroma of rich sweet yellow fruits, caramel, wheat and yeast. Flavor is immediately intense. Sweet, succulent caramel and wheat, with a balancing sharpness coming from the big fruit esters. The yeast apparency, which is like a mix between sour german yeast and belgian yeast adds a very unique element to this beer. Towards the end, it dries out a bit and gets very creamy with some vanilla cream flavors making their way in. Finish is pretty quick and clean, surprisingly, with lots of apple-like flavor and almost a cidery feel to it. I really enjoyed the mix of fruit, yeast, wheat and malt at the start. Even though it is a bit too sweet, I thought the flavor was very interesting. Body is full, tending to medium on the finish.

This is a good Weizen Bock. Hoppy, spicy, earthy, and bitter flavors. Finishes clean, crisp, and dry.

Extreme Beer Fest 2004: Muddy orange color with a small white head. Banana, apple and clove aroma, full bodied, starts lightly sweet ends heavily sweet and a tad acidic. A strange funky flavor at the end was noted.
