Commercial Description:
2009 Beer Lover’s Choice Contender - Sample B. This IPA style Ale is brewed with a carefully selected blend of hops from American, traditional German and English growing regions. It is dry hopped with Ahtanum, Simcoe and East Kent Golding hops for a powerful fruity and earthy aroma. The intense hop character is balanced by the traditional German-style malt lending a unique sweetness, full body and tart finish.

Pours amber with a medium sized off white head. Aroma is a mixture of caramel malt and citrusy and earthy hops. Flavor is caramel and toffee, with a little bit of citrus and earthy hop and a slight bitter finish. Ok.

Pours amber with an off-white head. Smells of citrus, some resiny hints, some hay. Tastes of citrus, spicy and earthy with a bite on the finish.

5.8% abv. Appearance: Pours a dark amber with a decent fluffy off-white head. The body is somewhat clear. Aroma: Sweet, spicy malt, grape fruit essence and rock candy. Taste: A mouthful of caramel or toffee like malt almost perfectly balanced with citrusy and bitter hops. I’d say the malt slightly outweighs the hop profile. Mouthfeel: Thick and heavy. Overall: A pretty enjoyable beer that reminds me of a west coast red ale.

Bottle B at Gravel Pike Inn of all places. Pours a golden amber with a small, off white head that left lacing on the glass. Aroma of lightly floral hops, citrus, a heavy does of caramel malt and some pineny notes. Taste was kind of up front caramel malts along with some pine and mixed citrus notes from the hops. I think this one was actually a Pale Ale.

12oz bottle. Poured a deeper amber color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of floral hops, caramel, and some citrus. Tastes of floral hops (more so than the aromas), a little toasty, and some citrus.

Sampled and evaluated during the Autumn Brew Review 2009 in Minneapolis, MN. From a test B 12-oz bottle. pours a clear copper amber colored brew with an average sized off-white head that quickly dissipates to a thing ring. Aroma of light caramel malt, citrus, a hint of grassy hops and some honey. Taste is light to medium bodied, with flavors of light caramel malt, some citrus and a touch of toffee. Finish has a short lived mild bitterness that is very tame for an IPA. Maybe an American Pale Ale, but not an IPA.

Sampled bottle at Pike. Reddish pour with a hint of caramel malt aromas. Caramel malt in taste with hints of citrus pine. It was ok. Re tried at Boston beer company for their contest and I choose this one.
