Commercial Description:
This traditional lager is medium in body with a deep roasted character. Its dark color and rich malty flavor come from specially roasted caramel and chocolate malts. This brew is lightly hopped with Noble Bavarian hops for a soft spiciness and a smooth clean finish. Cheers!

Sampled at the Sam Adams tasting at Blacklick Wine and Spirits on 3.5.09. Darkest brown pour with a thin beige head. Malty aroma with some roasty coffee. Smoky malt flavor with a bitter coffee finish. Better than I remember.

Bottle: Pours a deep dark chocolate color with a tan head. Smells of dark malts and rich caramels. Tastes of chocolates and nutty bread. Finishes smooth with lots of character.

Nice dark brown/black body with a somewhat tall tan head. Smells like burnt grain, some chocolate, and coffee. Light notes of milk chocolate, burnt malt, and a slight spice to it. smooth texture, with a bit of funk in the aftertaste. Reminds me of a thin porter, or really thin stout.

Bottle. Pours a brownish color, darker. Has a decent foamy head, some lacing left behind. I thought this one was really good. Roasted malts, and caramel aroma. Flavor is burnt nuts, roasted malts and other coffee flavors. Medium body.

Bottle. A reddish dark brown beer with an almost tan head of very moderate size. Quite neutral on the nose, some caramel and roasted malts, but not much. Roasted malts, caramel and a touch of coffee in the mouth, medium body. Roasted finish with caramel. A quite decent beer, but surprisingly boring. Hope I’m not prejudiced. Don’t think so, it didn’t ring any bells at all. (090116)
