| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 16, 2009 Bottle. Pours dark red, almost black, and fairly thin. No true single distinguished smell. Drinks and feels like a lager, but a higher malt tones. Nice combo. Plamadude30k (122), Tucson, Arizona, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Feb 15, 2009 A nicely uncomplicated beer, it tastes like a very smooth lager. I was tasting with some friends and many were afraid of trying this because of the heavy appearance. After some coaxing, they tried and liked it quite well. A testament to this beer’s style. It makes me think of a lager with food coloring. My brain kept expecting a nice porter but it kept getting a lager. I don’t know. Guess I’m just not on board with this one. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 12, 2009 A dark red to black color with a dense dark tan head. Aroma of sweet roasted caramel ,and chocolate malt with some light dusty spicyness. Smooth medium body with soft carbonation. Flavor starts out with a quick dark roast malt some dark caramel in the background then you get some smooth chocolately/grainy flavors. The finish has a bit of spice from hops blending into the mix. A very balanced enjoyable, sessionable beer. One of my new favorites from Sam

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 10, 2009 12 oz. bottle. Pours a nice mocha head of long duration, with some lacing, over an obviously clear, but nearly opaque reddish black body....nose is mild with coffee, chocolate, bit of caramel, possibly dried fig....tastes of mild malts initially then the complexity of the roasted malt bill comes in, dry through out. Mouthfeel is light to medium. This seems a nice example of the style. fredandboboflo (1431), East Setauket, New York, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 8, 2009 Bottle. Aroma of roasted malts, nuts, hints of smoke. Flavor again nutty and roasty. Quite creamy. Not too much in the way of rich earthiness that I might expect from a more authentic schwarzbier, but the result, a sort of lager version of an American stout, very much agreed with me.
