Gorgeous, voluptuous head and a dark cherry cola color. Less fizz than most lagers, sweet and malty. Almost like a decent Belgian quadruple watered down, making it one of the best lagers I’ve had. Worth buying a sixer of, probably great with light fish with dark fruit glazes. crajun (96), , Texas, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 21, 2009 Pitch black, completely opaque with a one centimetre thick tan head atop the beer. Aroma of roasted malt, smoked peat, coffee, nuts and a light chocolate smell. Medium-bodied; Great smokey flavour up front with a good malt backbone & some good nutty & sweet flavours following soon behind. Aftertaste is bitter, but suprisingly nice. Overall, one of the best Sam Adams beers I’ve had! Thanks Phil (haddon90) for giving me this beer, keep it up for some more beers, Jim Koch! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle given to me by haddon90, purchased from Giant in Manassas, Virginia on 08-July-2005 on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. yard81 (3), Senoia, Georgia, USA does not count | 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 1/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Jan 20, 2009 Dark with red tint. Big fluffy tan sandy head and minimal lacing. Nose of chocolate, coffee, and some dark candied fruits come through first, with a very faint roast quality as well. Flavor is full of roast, chocolate, caramel, coffee, some honey, distant molasses. Very flavorful, medium-bodied, spicy finish. Enjoyed it. MaltOMeal (652), Land of Sugar, Texas, USA
