| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 3, 2008 pours a dark brown with a decent frothy head, slow to dissipate. Aroma is pretty basic, mostly malt and hops, maybe a touch of caramel. Flavor is thick with roasted malt, dark chocolate, and some sweetness- probably the caramel again- nicely balanced for a sam adams. Palate is good, stays strong but not overbearing in any way. One of Boston Beer Co’s better offerings. machfive55 (234), Columbia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 5/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | Oct 2, 2008 Poured black with a nice tan head that lasted through the glass. The aroma isn’t anything exciting, slightly hoppy but mostly malt. The flavor is very smooth, crisp and clean like a lager should be with a touch of chocolate maltiness thrown in. Overall its not bad but I was not really impressed with this beer. There was something slightly off with it as well, but I couldn’t quite pin it down. thcalan (5), , New York, USA does not count | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Oct 1, 2008 Dark brown with a thick fluffy tan head and a chocklat-y smell and taste.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 30, 2008 Bottle poured into frosted glass. Dark brown in color with a very think, dark tan head. A bit of roasted chocolate in the nose, not very strong. Mostly caramel and roasted malts in the taste, but not too overbearing - very drinkable. Would make a good session beer. dEM1972 (53), , Illinois, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Sep 28, 2008 Deep, very dark black in colour; essence of treacle in aroma with wisps of malt combining to give a sweet scent; very smooth dark roasted taste, you get the traces of treacle in there but it is the strong, deep roasted bitterness that envelops the mouth stankenk (130), Maplewood, Minnesota, USA
