Commercial Description:
This traditional lager is medium in body with a deep roasted character. Its dark color and rich malty flavor come from specially roasted caramel and chocolate malts. This brew is lightly hopped with Noble Bavarian hops for a soft spiciness and a smooth clean finish. Cheers!

Very dak, bitter and delicious. Jim Koch has got it going on. I am partial to the patriotism displayed though his work.

Black color with garnet highlights. Malty sweetness in the taste with little hop flavor. Smell is of malts and toast.

A roasted, almost burnt quality to the aroma. Nice ruby/brown/black color, with an off-white head. The flavor has a burnt, ash-like quality. Some malt sweetness, but not enough. Leaves a roasty tasting finish on the palate. Medium mouthfeel. I had this a while ago and I remember it being better.

Poured a dark cola with dark tan head around 2.5 cm. Nice lacing. Smells of red licorice, grain, pie dough, and a touch of cooked cabbage. Mouthfeel is smooth. Average carbonation. Taste is nicely hopped for the style, bready malt, a bit of cocoa. Too understated and unremarkable for my tastes.

My pops brought this over today, and I was’nt sure what it was. Upon pouring it, I was expecting a mild stout, but boy was I wrong. It’s got a very complex and deep flavor. Very malty and kind of creamy on the finish. I was thoroughly surprised and impressed with this.

One of Sam Adams’ best beers. Nice roasted flavor and very dark. Not much in the way of hops.

Bottle. Pours black. Nice aroma, kind of a sweet spice with hint of chocolate. A pretty good beer. One of the better Sam Adams.
