Commercial Description:
This traditional lager is medium in body with a deep roasted character. Its dark color and rich malty flavor come from specially roasted caramel and chocolate malts. This brew is lightly hopped with Noble Bavarian hops for a soft spiciness and a smooth clean finish. Cheers!

A block of dark chocolate jammed into a bottle and fermented. Delicious. It is, of my experience thus far, my favorite of the Sam Adams line.

Nice thick tan head. Sweet malt aroma. Taste is more amber ale than black lager to my palate. Not what I was expecting. My model schwarzbier is Moonlight Death & Taxes, which is much cleaner and darker, as the qualifiers "Black" and "Lager" would suggest. Meh.

Nice black color with a tan head. Great retention and lacing. Roasty nose, smooth and not too heavy dark malt roasted taste. I don’t get any of the supposed chocolate malt but this is nice and drinkable.

Pours dark brown/ruby with a tan head. Roasted malt aroma. Has a very similar roasted chocolate malt flavor. Has a nice sweet chocolate and light bitter hop balance. The best of the 3 style 6 pack.

Very easy to drink. Could use a little more flavor considering it’sa dark lager. Reminds me of a guinness with less flavor to it. But VERY smooth.

I did not enjoy this. I typically prefer ales to lagers, so I was biased going into it. Too much malt for my taste.

black pour with a khaki almost 3 finger head. thick roasted malts and chocolate on the nose. rather thin on the palate but i guess that’s a schwarzbier for ya. the flavor definitely makes up for it though. roasted malts and a finish of nice sweet dark chocolate.

Very dark brown with nice chestnut highlights. Killer head that’s both creamy and rocky. Earthy, caramelly, lightly chocolatey aroma. Toasty, chocolatey palate is smooth and sweetish. Almost sticky in the finish.
