| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Apr 21, 2008 Dark brown color, with a smal fizzy head, with an aroma that is a tad bit like smoked chocolate, not very full bodied and not that impressive, not a sustaining mouthfeel, and a nothing finish. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 19, 2008 12 ounce bottle- pored out a dark brown/black with a cola-colored head. The appearance of this beer may have tainted my thinking on it, it looks like a stout, but that is where the similarities end. Aroma was chocolate and dried fruits. Taste was mild and a little sweet with a prune finish. This ale could have been fuller bodied, I had expected a stout-like creaminess, but it came off pretty thin bodied. Overall, above average to good. beachbum25 (800), Powellville, Maryland, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 19, 2008 12 oz Bottle-Pours black w/a decent head & good carbonation. Chocolate/carbonated aroma. Flavors of roasted malt & chocolate w/some initial sweetness but a bitter malt finish. Did have a lot of carbonation to it. Maybe it is just the nature of this style as this is my 1st Schwarzbier, but I thought this beer lacked a definite style, just had too much going on. It reminded me of a good Porter, but the carbonation took away from that flavor. Just OK. spikester (602), Salem, Oregon, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 19, 2008 Nice chocolate aroma.
Pours black with some red highlights. Tatse is mostly dark malts with a molasses tint. Big off-white head with some lacing.
Good beer overall good introduction to craft beers. Not a big fan of sweet beers. KimJohansen (7130), Copenhagen V, Denmark
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 17, 2008 Black with large beige head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, liquerice and coffee. Sweet flavor with roasted malt, caramel, coffee and caramel. Ends slightly bitter. Not bad. BeerBiker (1392), Kathmandu, Nepal
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 16, 2008 Good surprise. Close to flavor of Köstritzer, which means lots of roasted soft black malt and with a good dusty finish. anthlovesbeer (67), north grafton, Massachusetts, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Apr 14, 2008 One of my very first "dark" lagers. Not too impressed. A definite roasted, malty taste, slightly on the bitter side. DrHomolka (728), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 12, 2008 12oz bottle. This is a bottle that is recalled. Did not see any glass chunks in this. Wish me luck. Pours dark brown with a small white head. Aroma is nice roastiness though smooth and clean, graham crackers, toast. Taste is clean, slightly roasty with a touch of chocolate. Pretty light and very drinkable. Medium-light bodied. I don’t think I’ve had a Schwarzbier before but this was pretty tasty. Certainly the best Sam Adams beer I’ve had.
