Commercial Description:
This traditional lager is medium in body with a deep roasted character. Its dark color and rich malty flavor come from specially roasted caramel and chocolate malts. This brew is lightly hopped with Noble Bavarian hops for a soft spiciness and a smooth clean finish. Cheers!

12oz Bottle: Pours black, some blood red highlights, w/ a nice light brown head. Light lacing around the glass. Aroma is of light caramel. Nice roasted malt flavor w/ just a touch of chocolate & some nice mild hops. After the beer warms a bit some nuttiness starts to present itself in the aroma & a thick stickiness is left in the mouth. Very good...yum.

Pours a beautiful black color with tan head. Rich taste of caramel, chocolate, coffee, and roasty malts and hops. A sweet and roasty finish. One of Samuel Adams better brews.

12oz. One of the better brews I’ve had from Sammy. Pours jet black with a brown rim and off-white head. Nose is mostly tree bark and alcohol. Body is similar with some copper pipe and creaminess thrown in for good measure.

bottle from Bevmo. Actually not too bad. Black with a white fizzy head. Sweet malty aroma. Sweet caramel and mild chocolate taste with a roasty finish.

Very dark red/brown in colour with a thin off-white head. Aroma: sweet, malt, slightly smoky. Medium bodied (a little watery) with low carbonation. Flavours: chocolate and malt mainly. Dry with some light bitterness in the finish. Quite nice. - marked 12 fl oz on bottle which is (336ml)

Bottle - Dark brown/black with beige head. Roasty aroma and flavours. Medium body with fairly low carbonation. Mildly bitter finish. Fits the "Schwarzbier" style description well. Quite enjoyable.

bottle from BeerGestapo. thanks Mike. pours a very dark brown, near black with a tan head. smells like roasted malts. flavor was like a watery stout, kind of a subdued bitterness. overall not a bad beer and a decent readily available introduction for the style.

12 oz. into pint glass. Pours a rich black head with an average size, light brown head. The aroma was unique and refreshing with lots of subtle scents: nuts, caramel, malt, molasses, and more. The flavor was interesting (tastes as aroma implies), but I didn’t want to drink more than one. It seemed almost as if there was too much going on, and a bit to sweet for me (a strange sweetness though). Palate was smooth, with low carbonation; medium bodied. Overall, nice brew to try, but I prefer too many other beers to buy this again.
