| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 7, 2008 12oz Bottle: Pours black, some blood red highlights, w/ a nice light brown head. Light lacing around the glass. Aroma is of light caramel. Nice roasted malt flavor w/ just a touch of chocolate & some nice mild hops. After the beer warms a bit some nuttiness starts to present itself in the aroma & a thick stickiness is left in the mouth. Very good...yum. bluemooner (237), Blaine, Minnesota, USA

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 6, 2008 12oz. One of the better brews I’ve had from Sammy. Pours jet black with a brown rim and off-white head. Nose is mostly tree bark and alcohol. Body is similar with some copper pipe and creaminess thrown in for good measure. badlizard (2385), Berkeley, California, USA

| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Apr 5, 2008 bottle from BeerGestapo. thanks Mike. pours a very dark brown, near black with a tan head. smells like roasted malts. flavor was like a watery stout, kind of a subdued bitterness. overall not a bad beer and a decent readily available introduction for the style. 502Flavors (629), Louisville, Kentucky, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 5, 2008 12 oz. into pint glass. Pours a rich black head with an average size, light brown head. The aroma was unique and refreshing with lots of subtle scents: nuts, caramel, malt, molasses, and more. The flavor was interesting (tastes as aroma implies), but I didn’t want to drink more than one. It seemed almost as if there was too much going on, and a bit to sweet for me (a strange sweetness though). Palate was smooth, with low carbonation; medium bodied. Overall, nice brew to try, but I prefer too many other beers to buy this again.
