Apr 4, 2008 0.33L bottle. Small quickly dissapearing head, dark brown almost opaque colour with some red streaks. Dominant aroma of stale dark sour bread with some malt and some vanila. Taste is very dry with just a little touch of sweetness, some notes of roasted coffee. The texture is a little thin and unpleasant. Aftertaste is quite short and unappealing..

Apr 2, 2008 Poured from bottle a dark brown/black with a light brown, lasting foam head. The nose is of chocolate and malt and has a small touch of a sour-sweet twist. The flavor is a nice assortment of chocolate, caramel, roasted grain and coffee. A light bitterness is offset by a light sweetness to this beer. The beer turns more toffee-like as it warms. Overall a very pleasant sipping beer with good flavor.

Mar 31, 2008 12oz - best before June 2008 - Aroma of charred malts with just a touch of peat. Pours black with a big fluffy head and good lacing. Flavor of roasted chocolate malts and is somewhat ashy. Palate is dry and creamy. A pretty tasty brew.

Mar 30, 2008 Pours a black color with a nice, healthy tan head. Medium bodied with a nice roasted caramel and dark chocolate taste. Not the most complex schwarzbier, but quite palatable.

Mar 28, 2008 Bottle - Pours a deep brown/black color with a frothy brown head and an obvious roasted malty aroma. Nice malty flavor with a hint of hops. Good over all.

Mar 27, 2008 Clearly one of my favorite of the Samuel Adams family. The black lager is bountiful in caramel, coffee, and chocolate malts. It is smooth and pours rich black with a creamy head.

Mar 27, 2008 I give this beer props for being one of the better schwarzbiers that you can find in the US. Hands down it beats the Shiner, Kostizter, and Rahr and Sons by a long shot. Still, not as good as say Schultheiss, but good. Rich chocolate flavor, deeply roasted malt and grain. All in all, quite enjoyable.

Mar 26, 2008 Samuel Adams Black Lager is a very nice dark beer with a good but quickly disappearing mocha head. The aroma is rich with hints of caramel, chocolate and roasted malts. The flavor is full of dark roasted malt that is very quickly swallowed with a dry finish.
