Not too hoppy. Nice dark color. Could be the best offering from Sam Adams. Tough to find in a six pack but is widely available in the brewmaster’s packs. Ambrose (141), East Aurora, New York, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 10, 2008 12 oz. bottle. Aroma is full of roasted malt and a slight hint of bitter hops. Pours a deep and dark brownish-black, virtually opaque with about 1.5-3 fingers worth of fluffy brownish crown with great retention and decent fingery lacing. Flavour is full of roasted malt with toffee, caramel and a hint of some bitter chocolate. Strong malt backbone with hops causing a clean finish but disappearing from the palate at the end of the taste. Medium-plus bodied with a semi-creamy mouthfeel and spritely carbonation. I thought it was too carbonated for my liking but I think this beer gets better as it warms up. Not as thick-bodied as a stout or porter, so a great alternative for people who like beers with a thinner body yet strong roasty and malty flavour. Overall a great beer that is widely available and a safe choice at any bar. toddbates (95), USA
