Commercial Description:
This traditional lager is medium in body with a deep roasted character. Its dark color and rich malty flavor come from specially roasted caramel and chocolate malts. This brew is lightly hopped with Noble Bavarian hops for a soft spiciness and a smooth clean finish. Cheers!

Bottle: Poured a black color with a thin head. The aroma was roasted chocolate malts. The flavor was chocolate, roasted nuts, malts, and a hint of licorice. Overall, a tasty brew

Bottle, a little surprised I hadn’t rated this before. Nutty mocha nose with overripe fruit and stale air. Sweet with some light roasted malt. Pitch pour with a lacing tan head. Light body, nice acidic twang under the dusty mocha and nuts, touch of spice, touch of wood in with the roast and chocolate. Soft, creamy, with a little noble prickle at the end. Really rather drinkable - not like any of the East German Schwarzbiere I had, but easily one of my favs from Sammy.

Overall Impression: One of the Sam’s you see all over the place, a nice looking beer with a drinkable, but not overwhelming taste. Roasty and sweet.

Bottle, 6 fl. oz. Pours a clear nutbrown beer with a firm offwhite head. The aroma is dark, roasted and licorice. The flavor is licorice. No bitterness in the palate, and overall a refreshing beer.

I’m not sure if this bottle is bad or not, but the aftertaste is unpleasant, more like burnt popcorn than roasted malt. Decent body etc but not a great finish.

Interesting roast coming from this dark mahogany brown beer. Not a bad schwarzbier except that it leaves a slightly sour aftertaste.
