FatTony (110), Augusta, Georgia, USA Apr 19, 2008 12 ounce bottle- pored out a dark brown/black with a cola-colored head. The appearance of this beer may have tainted my thinking on it, it looks like a stout, but that is where the similarities end. Aroma was chocolate and dried fruits. Taste was mild and a little sweet with a prune finish. This ale could have been fuller bodied, I had expected a stout-like creaminess, but it came off pretty thin bodied. Overall, above average to good.
BlockBrew (74), West Lafayette, Indiana, USA Aug 29, 2008 Dark brown with a slightly red tint. Large tan head. Light aroma of a pale lager. Roasted flavor with slight coffee taste. Light body. Smooth but nothing set it apart. gbdub (30), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA Aug 29, 2008 Deep brown black with a thinnish head. Medium roasted malt aroma and flavor. Finish has a lighter roast character. Body is medium-thin. Very drinkable but nothing stellar. tangentrider (142), USA Aug 28, 2008 Dark brown beer with a tan head. Aroma is caramel and roast. Flavor is roasted malt, coffee, and hoppy bitterness. Finish is faint malt and fading bitterness. Very nice beer. Imaena (240), Portland, Maine, USA Aug 28, 2008 Bottle 08’. Pour is dark and the head was thin and fast fading. Sweet chocolate and coffee flavour development. Light bodied like a lager and roasty like a porter. Nice brew.
wcampbell (416), Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 27, 2008 Not a fan of Sam Adams, and just because it is dark does not mean it is good. Sweet and roasty chocolate malt taste. Lightly sweet watery finish. No bitterness anywhere. Pretty smooth, but way to thin and light bodied for a beer like this.
