Commercial Description:
The blackberries we use in Samuel Adams® Blackberry Witbier are perfect for this brew. They deliver a subtle sweetness that balances the traditional citrus flavors from the witbier. The blackberries used in Samuel Adams Blackberry Witbier are sourced from family farms, located at the foot of the Oregon Trail and Cascade Mountains in Western Oregon, where they have been growing some of the best blackberries in the world for centuries. By bringing the blackberries, orange and coriander together with an appealing malt character and a spiciness from the hops, we’ve brewed a flavorful beer with a smooth finish that’s both sweet and tart. Samuel Adams® Blackberry Witbier is brewed with two-row Harrington and Metcalfe malted barley and generous portions of malted wheat. The malted barley and malted wheat provide the beer with its light body while the coriander and orange give the beer its citrus like aromas. We’ve also added some Oregon Marion blackberries, to give the brew a perfect balance between its subtly sweet and tart flavors.

Bottle. Poured yellow-orange in color with a large fizzy white head that had virtually no lacing. The aroma was that of light bready malts moderately sweet with a heavy raspberry odor. It tasted of sweet malts with a strong raspberry finish that only lasted a short time. Mouthfeel was light with a watery texture. Overall not a bad beer but not a great one either.

from notes: Hazy golden body with lasting white head. Dark berry aroma, wet cardboard and a cellar. Flavour has same, but more berries added. Smooth and ok mouthfeel. Just another fruit beer that is unnecessary.

Aroma is an impressive shot of blackberry with a hint of citrus. Cloudy but a bit on the lighter side for a witbeer. Head thins out pretty quickly. Flavor is a burst of blackberry, exactly what I could of hoped for. Very smooth and refreshing, but not overly complex, one would say one dimensional, but I love it. Exactly the change of pace I look for.

Bottle: Poured a hazy orangey color ale with white haze and a medium foamy head with OK retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of blackberry and wheat is sweeter then I had anticipated but still very much enjoyable. Taste is well enough balanced between sweet blackberries and medium wheat malt. Body is fuller then average with OK carbonation. Not bad overall thought I prefer my Wit without fruit.

Poured from bottle into Summit pint glass. Hazy orange, but no visible sediment, lively bubbles and head. Appearance reminds me more of a Hefeweizen than a Witbier. Major blackberry smell, similar to a wine cooler. Smell is a little too one dimensional and mild, but pleasing nonetheless. Slightly sour orange and coriander upfront but the blackberry quickly becomes noticeable. The blackberry is evident but not overdone. Nice balance overall. Slight peppery aftertaste. High carbonation, fuller than expected. Very refreshing. Unique Wit and actually prefer it to most standard Wits I have had, including the Sam Adams White Ale. Better than expected. Nice job Jim!

Fairly unremarkable in most regards. Tastes rather like a regular wheat, with a bit of blackberry in the middle. Finishes mildly sour.

Nice golden color. Medium carbonation with no lacing at all. Blackberry flavor and aroma is pleasant but overpowering. Needs a far stronger malt backbone to balance.
