Commercial Description:
The blackberries we use in Samuel Adams® Blackberry Witbier are perfect for this brew. They deliver a subtle sweetness that balances the traditional citrus flavors from the witbier. The blackberries used in Samuel Adams Blackberry Witbier are sourced from family farms, located at the foot of the Oregon Trail and Cascade Mountains in Western Oregon, where they have been growing some of the best blackberries in the world for centuries. By bringing the blackberries, orange and coriander together with an appealing malt character and a spiciness from the hops, we’ve brewed a flavorful beer with a smooth finish that’s both sweet and tart. Samuel Adams® Blackberry Witbier is brewed with two-row Harrington and Metcalfe malted barley and generous portions of malted wheat. The malted barley and malted wheat provide the beer with its light body while the coriander and orange give the beer its citrus like aromas. We’ve also added some Oregon Marion blackberries, to give the brew a perfect balance between its subtly sweet and tart flavors.

Pours a cloudy amber with a frothy white head and wispy lace. The nose is a pleasant blackberry note over a soft, mildly spicy wheat backing. The traditional orange peel and coriander are definitely hidden by the berry front. Light-bodied, soft and lightly wheaty/grainy with a mildly drying finish. The flavor is an oddly muted blackberry front with a touch of coriander and a peach pit bitterness that dry out the finish. It’s not as bad as their Cherry Wheat, but I seriously have to question who taste tests their prototype beers before they give them the "thumbs up". This is an odd bird.

Unknown Date: Samuel Adams Blackberry Witbier has a smooth berry wheatiness in the aroma. This beer tastes a bit sugary and fake with just a light amount of berry in the flavor. As far as appearance goes, it is golen in color and slightly hazy with a foamy off-white head. It has a medium body and is smooth on the palate. Overall I am not impressed with this particular fruit beer from Sam Adams. Actually, many of their fruit beer offerings just aren’t that good!

12 fl. oz. bottle shared by my friend Rob. Rating #342 for this beer.

Looks somewhat like a witbier, but the blackberry flavor is rather shallow and fake-tasting. I think they used extract instead of the real thing and the quality has suffered. Rather thick for a witbier.

(12 ounce bottle) Thin head, has a wheat malt taste. Fizzy carbonation. The finish is clean and short. Overall I like the combination of wheat and blackberries

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a pint glass. Appearance: The body has a nice slightly hazy appearance with some visible streams of carbonation and golden color. On top there is a thick and fluffy bright white head. It hangs out for a bit but soon starts to fade fast down to a small ring of lace. There is some slick lacing on the glass. Smell: There is a nice berry aroma as soon as you open the bottle. Light bready wheat notes are mixed in as well. Taste/Mouth Feel: The flavor has a light wheat base with light floral notes and mixed berry notes that have light sweetness. This gives way to some tart berry notes and a very slight acidity that dries out into the finish which is quick and clean. The body is light to medium with lively carbonation and texture. Notes: Overall it’s a nice light summery beer.

Cloudy wheat beer with a small head that dissapears quickly. The aroma is strong with blackberries and over powers any normal beer aroma. It has a slight bitter taste that offsets the sweetness of the blackberries, but is also very flat. Not my favorite beer but it cames with the Sam Adams variety pack. I drink this first so I can use the rest to wash it down with. :)

Bottle at a friends barbecue: Pours a hazy golden with an off whtie film of head. Very perfumy and artificial berry aroma- smells like scented markers- has some odd waxy phenols as well. Fizzy, perfumy, artificial, just pretty awful overall with a chemical-like berry note. This is a fruit beer with no natural flavors, nor discerning enjoyable base beer qualities. Yuck.
