Commercial Description:
The blackberries we use in Samuel Adams® Blackberry Witbier are perfect for this brew. They deliver a subtle sweetness that balances the traditional citrus flavors from the witbier. The blackberries used in Samuel Adams Blackberry Witbier are sourced from family farms, located at the foot of the Oregon Trail and Cascade Mountains in Western Oregon, where they have been growing some of the best blackberries in the world for centuries. By bringing the blackberries, orange and coriander together with an appealing malt character and a spiciness from the hops, we’ve brewed a flavorful beer with a smooth finish that’s both sweet and tart. Samuel Adams® Blackberry Witbier is brewed with two-row Harrington and Metcalfe malted barley and generous portions of malted wheat. The malted barley and malted wheat provide the beer with its light body while the coriander and orange give the beer its citrus like aromas. We’ve also added some Oregon Marion blackberries, to give the brew a perfect balance between its subtly sweet and tart flavors.

Pours a three finger white head that fades quickly leaving some lace. Cloudy amber color. Light-medium carbonation and light-medium bodied. Slight blackberry nose. Flavor is wheat with some sweetness from the blackberry. $2.00 for a 12oz bottle from Northend Superette Manchester, NH.

Not up to their cherry or cranberry wheats, it doesn’t taste as subtle. A little syrupy. but I do like it. It’s very drinkable and refreshing. The aroma is very nice and I feel blackberrys are easy to detect. The color is a little boring, still for all it’s drawbacks I still think it’s a decent drink.

BOTTLE: pale gold pour, very nice fruit and spice nose. The blackberry comes through on taste, but then this beer just dies.

12 oz bottle. Poured a golden color with a small head. Nose of citrus, wheat and blackberry. Initial taste is syrupy sweet and too dominating to be acceptable to me. Wheat comes in the background. Body is light and watery. Not my cup of tea.

Bottle from Total Wine in Washington DC. Went beer shopping with my sister; she bought a sixer of it and traded me one for one of my Dogfish Heads. I was ripped off. Initial reaction: this must be what Oompa Loompa pee looks like: orange, no head, vaguely medicinal smell. Took me a while to recognize the main flavor: burnt peanuts. Can also taste blackberry seeds, with a little bit of syrupy blackberry chemical additive. Ugh. I love blackberrie and witbier, so I was hoping for better. I should have learnt my lesson after having that horrible, horrible cherry wheat Sad Sam sells.

12 oz. bottle shared with my girlfriend. Poured to a hi-ball glass about 5 oz. Presented a gold color with a touch of orange. The head was white and frothy, leaving some clingy ribbons of lacing. The nose was sweetness, tart blackberries and a hint of spice. The flavor was malt and milder fruit notes, with a mouthfeel that was a little watery and thin. Okay in the quaffable department.

12 oz bottle from the Bayou. Pours a bright orange color with a medium white head. The aroma is sweet berries and malts, light spices. The flavor was nice; easygoing spices and light malts, sweet honey flavors, a importantly a natural tasting berry component. Actually a nice brew.

Another beer sampled at Hyun’s bachelor party. Poured a hazy orange gold, decent head. Aroma was wheat and undefined dark fruit. Flavor was grainy wheat with sort of a blackberry syrup thing going. A bit sweet, not bad, but not quite what I had hoped for. Sweetness and soapy mouthfeel detracted.
