Commercial Description:
The blackberries we use in Samuel Adams® Blackberry Witbier are perfect for this brew. They deliver a subtle sweetness that balances the traditional citrus flavors from the witbier. The blackberries used in Samuel Adams Blackberry Witbier are sourced from family farms, located at the foot of the Oregon Trail and Cascade Mountains in Western Oregon, where they have been growing some of the best blackberries in the world for centuries. By bringing the blackberries, orange and coriander together with an appealing malt character and a spiciness from the hops, we’ve brewed a flavorful beer with a smooth finish that’s both sweet and tart. Samuel Adams® Blackberry Witbier is brewed with two-row Harrington and Metcalfe malted barley and generous portions of malted wheat. The malted barley and malted wheat provide the beer with its light body while the coriander and orange give the beer its citrus like aromas. We’ve also added some Oregon Marion blackberries, to give the brew a perfect balance between its subtly sweet and tart flavors.

Blackberriieeessss. This is the kind of fruit juice I wish I brought to school with me when I was a kid. The blackberry taste was very noticeable, but not bad.

Bottle purchased from a corner deli. Pour is light amber yellowish orange. Aroma is purple. Taste is wheaty, dough, and blue and blackberrys. Pretty decent but not very big.

Nothing spectacular as a witbeir; the blackberry addition does give the witbier a pleasant change of pace flavor; not much on aroma; an ’OK’ beer from Sam Adams

in bottle @ GIBF, what the hell is with sam adams? why cant they keep it simple and just do a quality witbier or IPA or whatever and not add fruit or whatever to it to try and be different. as one of the largest "micro’s" out there, they have the money to create some really nice beer if they wanted to but seem to have lost the idea that most people like simple beer, if i want an IPA i want to taste citrus and pine with high hops and very little malt, if i have a witbier i want spices, orange, and crisp taste, not blackberry.

12 ounce bottle, best before January 2010. Served in a mug, the beer pours a hazy yellow/orange color with a half inch white head. Head retention and lacing are both average. The beer smells mostly like blackberries, along with some wheat/grain. Taste is similar to the aroma, however there is more balance between the wheat and blackberry flavors. Mouthfeel/body is light, it’s a bit dry and has good carbonation. Drinkability is OK, it’s smooth and easy to drink. I think this is a good overall brew, if I was in the mood for a fruit beer I’d buy it again.

A: Poured with an average-sized head that quickly turned into a mere thin film. No real lacing to speak of. Body is dark yellow and very hazy... almost cloudy, really. S: Yep, there’s blackberries all right. Not sickening though, which is a relief. Some orange in there as well. T: Lots of blackberries in the taste, so very sweet. It’s not cloying, but it’s on the border. Hard to tell it’s also a witbier, but I can detect a little of the orange/coriander that is so prominent to the style. Mostly berries, though. M: Light-bodied, and slightly creamy, with average carbonation. D: It’s not bad at all, but I think it would get sickening if you had more than one (most of these beers would for me, anyway).
