Commercial Description:
The blackberries we use in Samuel Adams® Blackberry Witbier are perfect for this brew. They deliver a subtle sweetness that balances the traditional citrus flavors from the witbier. The blackberries used in Samuel Adams Blackberry Witbier are sourced from family farms, located at the foot of the Oregon Trail and Cascade Mountains in Western Oregon, where they have been growing some of the best blackberries in the world for centuries. By bringing the blackberries, orange and coriander together with an appealing malt character and a spiciness from the hops, we’ve brewed a flavorful beer with a smooth finish that’s both sweet and tart. Samuel Adams® Blackberry Witbier is brewed with two-row Harrington and Metcalfe malted barley and generous portions of malted wheat. The malted barley and malted wheat provide the beer with its light body while the coriander and orange give the beer its citrus like aromas. We’ve also added some Oregon Marion blackberries, to give the brew a perfect balance between its subtly sweet and tart flavors.

Poured from a bottle A: Pours a nice frothy head, lots of bubbles but not much head retention after things settle and minimal lacing on the glass.. It has a very fragrant blackberries and citrus smells. The taste is very interesting, with the powerful smell I thought there would be a stronger fruit taste like Lieinies Berry Weiss. This is a good beer with a hint of berries in the taste. Goes down easy. It gives a slick mouthfeel with just a hint of carbonation. I could drink a 6’er or so. Reminds me of their Cherry Wheat with the powerful fragrance yet subtle taste of the fruit in the beer.

Bottle at Flying Saucer, Houston. Pours a blah cheddar orange with a plastic blackberry syrup nose. Flavor is doughy blackberry with a plastic finish. Average mouthfeel. Not bad, just not assertive enough for me.

A boring and run of the mill fruit beer. Aroma was very wit-like. Mostly yeast and berry. Pour was a nice light gold with lots of bubbles and a 2 finger white head. Taste was like most average fruit beers. The blackberry is a solid backbone while the wheat and yeast are in the background. Decent carbonation with a prickly sweet filmy aftertaste.

Light golden color with a white head. Definite aroma and taste of blackberry but not overwhelming. Little bit of a waxy finish, little sticky in the end. Not bad for a fruit beer.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a hazy brownish gold with a good sized, foamy, white head. Pretty good head retention. Strong blackberry nose with light wheat and grain notes. Medium carbonation with a medium-light mouthfeel. An odd mix of fruit on the palate. Blackberry and coriander notes dominate. Light wheat notes as well. Short finish with some lingering blackberry flavors. A little more one dimensional than I was hoping for.

Interesting beer. Berry aroma. The taste was a little more complex than I was expecting, immediately the berry taste came through but was then replaced with a hoppy finish. Not something I would drink often, but it wasn’t too bad.
