Commercial Description:
The blackberries we use in Samuel Adams® Blackberry Witbier are perfect for this brew. They deliver a subtle sweetness that balances the traditional citrus flavors from the witbier. The blackberries used in Samuel Adams Blackberry Witbier are sourced from family farms, located at the foot of the Oregon Trail and Cascade Mountains in Western Oregon, where they have been growing some of the best blackberries in the world for centuries. By bringing the blackberries, orange and coriander together with an appealing malt character and a spiciness from the hops, we’ve brewed a flavorful beer with a smooth finish that’s both sweet and tart. Samuel Adams® Blackberry Witbier is brewed with two-row Harrington and Metcalfe malted barley and generous portions of malted wheat. The malted barley and malted wheat provide the beer with its light body while the coriander and orange give the beer its citrus like aromas. We’ve also added some Oregon Marion blackberries, to give the brew a perfect balance between its subtly sweet and tart flavors.

I second the last reviewer’s questioning attitude towards this beer’s average score. Pours out a hazy yellow with about an inch of white foam. Smell is hefty wheat with a solid blackberry presence in the background. Taste is pretty much an even mix between wheat and berries. Maybe it’s because I’ve eaten Marion blackberries my whole life, but this one was decent especially for a fruit beer.

Not sure I understand the low score here. It’s not a great beer -- pretty weak other than the noticeable overtones of the blackberry -- but not too bad, either.

From bottle. Has a yeasty-bready wheat aroma with nice bit of blackberry fruitiness. About as expected. Hazy medium amber with thin head. Light bodied with heavy carbonation. Starts mildly sweet and wheaty with a light berry acidity. Followed by continued malt sweetness and a more sweet fruity flavor - couldn’t peg it as blackberry but some sort of berry. Fizzy acidity and a light chalky watery finish. Light bitter after.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy yellow-gold color with a medium sized white head. The aroma was tart vague berry that seemed a bit artificial. The flavor was tart and tangy with a vague berry and lightly wheaty element and a short, sugary finish. Ok.

33 cl bottle, Fargo, ND, USA. Slightly hazy light amber colour. Nice mellowed berry aroma, warming medium bodied flavor. Some cherry lingering notes that weren’t great on the finish, but pretty good.

Tart blackberry aroma, with perhaps a touch of coriander. Low carb. head with a dark golden body. Plenty of blackberry presence, but not much else. Maybe a little orange as well, but in a minor amount. Palate is non-existent. Alcoholic Kool-Aid.

I don’t normally like fruit beers, like SA cherry wheat, and I never put lemon or other fruit in my beer; but this was very good. Just a hint of berry and otherwise a good beer, I expect it will be a hit during the summer when it is very hot and people are looking for something different.
