Commercial Description:
The blackberries we use in Samuel Adams® Blackberry Witbier are perfect for this brew. They deliver a subtle sweetness that balances the traditional citrus flavors from the witbier. The blackberries used in Samuel Adams Blackberry Witbier are sourced from family farms, located at the foot of the Oregon Trail and Cascade Mountains in Western Oregon, where they have been growing some of the best blackberries in the world for centuries. By bringing the blackberries, orange and coriander together with an appealing malt character and a spiciness from the hops, we’ve brewed a flavorful beer with a smooth finish that’s both sweet and tart. Samuel Adams® Blackberry Witbier is brewed with two-row Harrington and Metcalfe malted barley and generous portions of malted wheat. The malted barley and malted wheat provide the beer with its light body while the coriander and orange give the beer its citrus like aromas. We’ve also added some Oregon Marion blackberries, to give the brew a perfect balance between its subtly sweet and tart flavors.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy yellow-gold color with a medium sized white head. The aroma was tart vague berry that seemed a bit artificial. The flavor was tart and tangy with a vague berry and lightly wheaty element and a short, sugary finish. Ok.

33 cl bottle, Fargo, ND, USA. Slightly hazy light amber colour. Nice mellowed berry aroma, warming medium bodied flavor. Some cherry lingering notes that weren’t great on the finish, but pretty good.

Tart blackberry aroma, with perhaps a touch of coriander. Low carb. head with a dark golden body. Plenty of blackberry presence, but not much else. Maybe a little orange as well, but in a minor amount. Palate is non-existent. Alcoholic Kool-Aid.

I don’t normally like fruit beers, like SA cherry wheat, and I never put lemon or other fruit in my beer; but this was very good. Just a hint of berry and otherwise a good beer, I expect it will be a hit during the summer when it is very hot and people are looking for something different.

Paler golden pour, with a big sudsy head. The pour is more or less clear, I had expected it to be a touch more cloudy than it was. The aroma is dominated by blackberries, very sweet. The flavor highlighted with the blackberry flavor, the hops are earthy, and the matching malts are mellow. Their is a slight lemony character to the taste experiance. I’m not a fan of fruit beers, nor wits... so it came as no surprise to me that this was just so so.

Decent, definitely not a witbier. No spice, weak flavor. Light sweetness of a typical fruit beer with some wheat taste. Not much in the way of blackberry taste. Easily drinkable, but nothing special.

Sweet nose of wheat and of course berries. Pours a cloudy clover honey. The mostly diminishing white creamy head leaves minimal lace. The brew has a great balance if nothing else. Light flavor tones and acidity. The finish is moderate and hints at fruit. The light fizzy body is somewhat cloying.

bottle. aroma is obviously fruity and yeasty, somewhat floral and grassy. flavor has a bit of berry fruit flavor, but it and the wheat beer aspects sort of cancel each other out to cause this beer to be unbalanced. kind of like drinking a blackberry scone. hate to say it, but there are better fruit-oriented beer out there(Shipyard). something about mixing wits and fruit beers together dont seem right. let wheat beers be wheat beers and let fruit beers be fruit beers. this mix doesnt work.
