Commercial Description:
The blackberries we use in Samuel Adams® Blackberry Witbier are perfect for this brew. They deliver a subtle sweetness that balances the traditional citrus flavors from the witbier. The blackberries used in Samuel Adams Blackberry Witbier are sourced from family farms, located at the foot of the Oregon Trail and Cascade Mountains in Western Oregon, where they have been growing some of the best blackberries in the world for centuries. By bringing the blackberries, orange and coriander together with an appealing malt character and a spiciness from the hops, we’ve brewed a flavorful beer with a smooth finish that’s both sweet and tart. Samuel Adams® Blackberry Witbier is brewed with two-row Harrington and Metcalfe malted barley and generous portions of malted wheat. The malted barley and malted wheat provide the beer with its light body while the coriander and orange give the beer its citrus like aromas. We’ve also added some Oregon Marion blackberries, to give the brew a perfect balance between its subtly sweet and tart flavors.

Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing. Body is hazy dark yellow, unfiltered. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), with notes of berry soda and lemon/orange zest. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter, unclean. Light to medium body, watery/syrupy texture, lively carbonation. Another oversimplified fruity beer from BBC. Meh.

Pours a pale golden color with a small white foamy head. Aroma is fruity and candy like. Taste is like cough syrup. I love Sam Adams, I’m not a fan of this.

12oz Bottle. Small Off-white head. Unimpressive sweet-artificial blackberry aroma. Wheaty flavor with some artificial flavors thrown in. Rather thin mouthfeel, and an artificial blackberry aftertaste that won’t stop. Meh.

12oz bottle-pours a foamy off white head and slightly hazed gold color. Aroma is fruit-blackberry, some grain. Taste is fruit-blackberry, some grain, slight spice hops. It is what it is….a fruit beer. Not sure I get any wit character. Thanks jwc215 for picking this one out.

Bottle. Pours a honey color. Medium white head. Suprisingly good lacing. Fruity (blackberry) aroma. Pleasant wheat beer persona with light blackberry taste. Nice malty mouthfeel. Overall a very nice fruit beer. Excellent for drinking on a summer evening. Just wish there was something to distinguish it from other decent wheat brews.

In my obsession for the small batch beer or the off the radar brew I have stayed away from an American success story. Sam Adams brought me back with this Blackberry Witbier, promising something different. Though this beer is not life changing, it is a chance for the average beer drinker to try something out of there comfort zone. Some will say it is flat and unexciting, but I say nay, it is exciting for our non-beer obsessed to get to try something different with a familiar name. So go on beer snobs and introduce your friends to something nice, maybe a pretty girl at a summer bbq. Do work.

Bottle: The aroma consists of artificial blackberry (kool-aid-ish) and slight grassiness. It pours a transparent golden-orange with a small white head. The flavor has some light-moderate blackberry flavors throughout. The finish has moderate grassiness. There really aren’t too many characteristics here. Light bodies with moderate carbonation.

honey/amber pour with a thin white head. nose is blackberries and sugar. decent on the palate and surprisingly quite light on the blackberry flavor. you can still get the "wit" flavor but it’s smoothed out nicely by the blackberries.
