Commercial Description:
The blackberries we use in Samuel Adams® Blackberry Witbier are perfect for this brew. They deliver a subtle sweetness that balances the traditional citrus flavors from the witbier. The blackberries used in Samuel Adams Blackberry Witbier are sourced from family farms, located at the foot of the Oregon Trail and Cascade Mountains in Western Oregon, where they have been growing some of the best blackberries in the world for centuries. By bringing the blackberries, orange and coriander together with an appealing malt character and a spiciness from the hops, we’ve brewed a flavorful beer with a smooth finish that’s both sweet and tart. Samuel Adams® Blackberry Witbier is brewed with two-row Harrington and Metcalfe malted barley and generous portions of malted wheat. The malted barley and malted wheat provide the beer with its light body while the coriander and orange give the beer its citrus like aromas. We’ve also added some Oregon Marion blackberries, to give the brew a perfect balance between its subtly sweet and tart flavors.

Brewmasters Collection. Light golden pour into thick foamy head that dissipates into a good ring of lacing which melts down the glass with every drink. Initial cloudiness fades into carbonated bubbles rising from the bottom of the glass into a pool of foam. Aroma of malty fruit with hints in the flavor of light hoppiness as the glass warms.

Bottle. Pours a honey color. Medium white head. Suprisingly good lacing. Fruity (blackberry) aroma. Pleasant wheat beer persona with light blackberry taste. Nice malty mouthfeel. Overall a very nice fruit beer. Excellent for drinking on a summer evening. Just wish there was something to distinguish it from other decent wheat brews.

Pours a fairly clear gold color with a small white head. Aroma is blackberries, and coriander at first. But eventually it starts to smell more like plastic. Taste is mostly wheat with some coriander and blackberries. Decent initial flavor, but the finish is very fast and disappointing, needs more of something. Definitely drinkable, but also pretty unremarkable to really rave about. Could be a refreshing summer beer though. Thin palate.

12 oz bottle. Pours a pale golden color with a quickly vanishing small white head. Smells of wheat and berries. Tastes of hay, citrus, flowers, bread and blackberries. A refreshing and pleasant beer.

Unique character, aroma of (surprise) blackberry and coriander, maybe some vanilla. Appearance is cloudy orange with a white head that thins out, and decent lacing. Flavor of blackberry with a creamy texture. Nice lingering taste of blackberry in the finish.

12 oz bottle courtesy of the Binnys Singles Rack (Orland Park, IL). Pours a hazy amber pour, with bits of fiery gold and amber mixed in, a moderate bubbly white head that dies to a small layer, laces a bit. Aromas do indeed push blackberries, a little too sweet and artificial for my liking, with a touch of skunk, and some wheaty feels, and some grains of paradise (similar to Summer Ale, which I think is awful). A touch of witbier in there, aroma wise, coriander, no real orange zest though. Maybe slight spice. Initial is a little too sweet for me, but the orange zest and coriander come through a little stronger, with wheat mellow sweetness, slight bitterness on finish, and belgian yeasts making their presence felt. Overall, this is too sweet, with the blackberry feeling a tad artificial. I’d have personally liked a touch more tartness to this, pushing a nice contrast. Alas, that was not in the cards. Lacks substance and a personality, even for a tame style.

A 12 oz bottle. The beer poured a cloudy gold and small white head. Smell is berries. The taste is moer like a buttered popcorn. Good carbonation. A single.

Not a bad fruit beer, but a fruit beer it definitely is. The berry aroma and flavor seriously overpower any of the wit characteristics that may have once been in this brew.
