Commercial Description:
The blackberries we use in Samuel Adams® Blackberry Witbier are perfect for this brew. They deliver a subtle sweetness that balances the traditional citrus flavors from the witbier. The blackberries used in Samuel Adams Blackberry Witbier are sourced from family farms, located at the foot of the Oregon Trail and Cascade Mountains in Western Oregon, where they have been growing some of the best blackberries in the world for centuries. By bringing the blackberries, orange and coriander together with an appealing malt character and a spiciness from the hops, we’ve brewed a flavorful beer with a smooth finish that’s both sweet and tart. Samuel Adams® Blackberry Witbier is brewed with two-row Harrington and Metcalfe malted barley and generous portions of malted wheat. The malted barley and malted wheat provide the beer with its light body while the coriander and orange give the beer its citrus like aromas. We’ve also added some Oregon Marion blackberries, to give the brew a perfect balance between its subtly sweet and tart flavors.

Pours a transparent pale golden with a thin spotty-lacing white head. Has a nice, fresh sweet candy blackberry nose with a touch of pale malt. Body starts mostly dry and grainy with some mild fruit flavor and a touch of tartness, but overall pretty bland.

Hazy golden orange color with a foamy but quickly dissipating off white head. Sweet but faint blackberry aroma. Fairly rich body but taste is rather mild. Flavors of malted wheat and blackberry with a slightly tart finish.

From a bottle poured amber with a fair amount of head. Nice fruity flavor with a quick finish.

12 oz bottle from Albertsons. Nose is definately blackberries and more blackberries overpowering any wheat. Cloudy orangey beer with a big off white head that lightly laces. Flavor is wheaty grain with some blackberries and light sweetness. Not bad fruit beer.

This cloudy yellow beer poured with a decent off-white head and a fruit aroma. There is a pretty good wheat base with a hint of blackberry in the palate, but this is otherwise just another mediocre Sam Adams brew.

2009 Bottle. Mediocre fruit beer, much like Boston Beer’s other fruit offerings. Smells like light berries and yeast. Looks almost orangey with no head. Flavor of berries and watery flour and a watery aftertaste. Overall not that great.

12 oz. bottle from Binny’s Beverage Depot in Orland Park, IL: This poured a slightly hazed bronze body with a three-fingered head. The aroma was of dusty blackberrys. The flavor had a bready wheat malt base, but the berries, orange peel, and coriander clashed in a none too pleasant way. The finish was dry with an herbal bitterness. I’m glad it was only one bottle.
