Commercial Description:
The blackberries we use in Samuel Adams® Blackberry Witbier are perfect for this brew. They deliver a subtle sweetness that balances the traditional citrus flavors from the witbier. The blackberries used in Samuel Adams Blackberry Witbier are sourced from family farms, located at the foot of the Oregon Trail and Cascade Mountains in Western Oregon, where they have been growing some of the best blackberries in the world for centuries. By bringing the blackberries, orange and coriander together with an appealing malt character and a spiciness from the hops, we’ve brewed a flavorful beer with a smooth finish that’s both sweet and tart. Samuel Adams® Blackberry Witbier is brewed with two-row Harrington and Metcalfe malted barley and generous portions of malted wheat. The malted barley and malted wheat provide the beer with its light body while the coriander and orange give the beer its citrus like aromas. We’ve also added some Oregon Marion blackberries, to give the brew a perfect balance between its subtly sweet and tart flavors.

12 oz. bottle from Binny’s Beverage Depot in Orland Park, IL: This poured a slightly hazed bronze body with a three-fingered head. The aroma was of dusty blackberrys. The flavor had a bready wheat malt base, but the berries, orange peel, and coriander clashed in a none too pleasant way. The finish was dry with an herbal bitterness. I’m glad it was only one bottle.

Bottle on 03/02/2009 from Total Wine Midlothian. Sweet fruit and spice aroma with light tart blackberry notes. Sweet, but somewhat tart blackberry flavor though a bit artificial, somewhat sugary with a wheat background. Light body with moderately high carbonation.

Tasted 3/23/09. 12oz bottle. The actual Brewmaster’s Collection bottle. Activated pour was mildly hazy with an orange golden hue. Finger width of billowing bone white head. Heady aromas of Total blackberry. Undertones of citrus, orange and lemons. Mild caramel toasty character. Light to medium bodied. Luckily, the blackberry is more apparent in the nose than the mouth. Nice subtle crispness. Smooths into a nice creamy finish. Traces of lingering zesty acidity. While it’s easy and simple, I still wouldn’t seek it out. Lingering cloying sweetness juxtapositioned with clinging, tingling effervescence on my gums. Even without the fruit added, the base beer is still weak and without depth. Hits the receptors on the tongue, but not the palate.

Well, it’s blackberries. Blackberry smell, blackberry taste. Pours a cloudy yellow, and its good for a fruit beer.

12oz bottle 3/22/09 (Publix)-Pours a hazy yellowish orange with a nice big white head. Aroma of blackberry and more blackberry. Taste begins with blackberries and ends with them and also throw in a little coriander. This light bodied brew was not too shabby. Nicely balanced.

Pours hazy orange color with off white head. Big blackberry aroma. Corriander and malt flavors up front. Finishes with sweet and tart flavor of blackberries. The blackberry flavor was very subdued compared to the strong aroma. Medium body with soft carbonation.
