Commercial Description:
The blackberries we use in Samuel Adams® Blackberry Witbier are perfect for this brew. They deliver a subtle sweetness that balances the traditional citrus flavors from the witbier. The blackberries used in Samuel Adams Blackberry Witbier are sourced from family farms, located at the foot of the Oregon Trail and Cascade Mountains in Western Oregon, where they have been growing some of the best blackberries in the world for centuries. By bringing the blackberries, orange and coriander together with an appealing malt character and a spiciness from the hops, we’ve brewed a flavorful beer with a smooth finish that’s both sweet and tart. Samuel Adams® Blackberry Witbier is brewed with two-row Harrington and Metcalfe malted barley and generous portions of malted wheat. The malted barley and malted wheat provide the beer with its light body while the coriander and orange give the beer its citrus like aromas. We’ve also added some Oregon Marion blackberries, to give the brew a perfect balance between its subtly sweet and tart flavors.

Decent taste and appearance. Wheat beer body and underlying taste with a sweet/tart blackberry finish.

Appearance: Pours a clear, orange-amber body with a fizzy, large, off-white head. Smell: Plump, handpicked blackberry nose ahead of notes smelling of toasty wheat malt and a few scant drops of clover honey. Taste: Crisp malted wheat and a taste of bready barley with a light honeyish sweetness. Hints of citrus and coriander preclude the pervasive blackberry flavor. Touch of spicy hops and bitterness. Finishes semi-dry and gently effervescent with a tangy mix of wheat and berries. Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium-plus carbonation. Drinkability: A fine beer to usher in spring with. Surprisingly refreshing and pleasant, considering how BBC’s other fruit beer (Grape Pale Ale, Cranberry Lambic, and Cherry Wheat) all were total flops for me.

Bottle. Purchase before: July 2009. Different label than that in the picture. Pours a slightly hazy old gold with a thick light-tan head that leaves rings of lacing. Tart artificial blackberry aroma with some sweet caramel, Smarties candy, coriander, and a wheaty graininess. A medicinal smell - almost like NyQuil. Thin-bodied with a good bit of carbonation. Taste starts off with some malty sweetness and transitions quickly to a blackberry tartness. Very mild spiciness with some coriander and orange peel in there too. Crisp finish. Refreshing.

Bottle from BevMo. Hazy light amber color with a decent beige head. Smells like blackberries. Near medium body with coarse carbonation. Flavor is grain/wheat/bread with definite dark berry flavor. I’d say blackberry. Finish is mild. Not very bitter. Not at all sweet.

Pretty good, but if they hadn’t told me, I wouldn’t have known there was blackberry in it.

Not too sweet which surprised me and full aroma of berries, but this was disappointing. Very neutral. Thin. Taste does not match the aroma. Somewhat "soapy." Was hoping for something like DFH "Black and Blue" here, but not near as good.

Bottle from BevMo. Lightly hazy amber in color. Aroma is of berries. Tastes like your standard fruit/wheat beer. Some grain in the finish. Nothing wrong with the brew, just a little boring.

Thanks kiefdog for the share. Pours a hazy straw gold with a nose of tart, hairy blackberry bushes, and some grass. Flavor is blackberry, bread, and a nice mellow sweetness. Not a bad wheat beer.
