Commercial Description:
The blackberries we use in Samuel Adams® Blackberry Witbier are perfect for this brew. They deliver a subtle sweetness that balances the traditional citrus flavors from the witbier. The blackberries used in Samuel Adams Blackberry Witbier are sourced from family farms, located at the foot of the Oregon Trail and Cascade Mountains in Western Oregon, where they have been growing some of the best blackberries in the world for centuries. By bringing the blackberries, orange and coriander together with an appealing malt character and a spiciness from the hops, we’ve brewed a flavorful beer with a smooth finish that’s both sweet and tart. Samuel Adams® Blackberry Witbier is brewed with two-row Harrington and Metcalfe malted barley and generous portions of malted wheat. The malted barley and malted wheat provide the beer with its light body while the coriander and orange give the beer its citrus like aromas. We’ve also added some Oregon Marion blackberries, to give the brew a perfect balance between its subtly sweet and tart flavors.

Yellow orange in color... Aroma of blackberries... Flavor is very light and would be kind of refreshing if it weren’t for the terrible sweet taste it leaves on your palate... I can’t believe Sam Adams would actually mass produce this beer... Tastes like a Raspberry Spritzer, actually hard to finish... Didn’t really expect it to be good though as the only really good fruit beers are belgian lambics

Fruit flavored wheats pretty much never work, and Samuel isn’t really the brewery that makes you think "well, maybe they are the ones to pull this off." In fact, I think Sam brews a whole line of crappy fruit beers, such as cherry wheat, and the terrible "lambic." PASS.

Cloudy tan yellow with actual sediment floating throughout the beer. Kind of disgusting and abnormal. It may be a rotten beer which is unusual for Sam Adams and its freshness controls. Light aroma featuring a blackberry smell. Sweet like a jam. Only the smallest amount of hops brings a nice balance to the smell. A pleasing flavor like a light lager sprinkled with berry tones and then a honey afterthought. Palate is very light an quenching. I’d consider this a nice summer brew.

Slightly cloudy golden copper coloured body with an orange tint and a thinnish slightly off-white head that dies very fast. Aroma of fake blackberries, raspberries, caster sugar and a bunch of malt - but not much else. Light-bodied; Fake sugar flavours up front dominate with some wierd fruit flavours afterwards and a bit of icing sugar and some cardboardie malt. Aftertaste has mostly fake flavours throughout - with nothing complex dominating. Overall, a pretty lacklustre beer, no strong flavours of any quality and no good fruit flavours - you can smell falseness throughout this one. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Chevy Chase Wine & Spirits in Washington, D.C. on 07-March-2009, sampled a day later at home here!

12 ounce bottle. Pours a slightly hazy golden color with a medium creamy head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of berries that starts tart and turns bitter. Taste is bitter blackberry with bready malts and green apple. Medium bodied. In no way a wit.

12oz bottle: Poured a very hazy blonde color with absolutly no head. Medium carbonization. Scent is of blackberrys, citrus and nuts. Taste has alot of citrus to it with a light feel to the mouth. Be a great summer time brew.

Not really a fan of this one. Has a piss pour (literally) light gold color. Smells of burnt berries. Taste like a poor attempt of a berry beer. Nothing special at all about this one. Aftertaste is bitter. Wachusette and Long Trail do a better job for a flavored beer like this.
