Commercial Description:
The blackberries we use in Samuel Adams® Blackberry Witbier are perfect for this brew. They deliver a subtle sweetness that balances the traditional citrus flavors from the witbier. The blackberries used in Samuel Adams Blackberry Witbier are sourced from family farms, located at the foot of the Oregon Trail and Cascade Mountains in Western Oregon, where they have been growing some of the best blackberries in the world for centuries. By bringing the blackberries, orange and coriander together with an appealing malt character and a spiciness from the hops, we’ve brewed a flavorful beer with a smooth finish that’s both sweet and tart. Samuel Adams® Blackberry Witbier is brewed with two-row Harrington and Metcalfe malted barley and generous portions of malted wheat. The malted barley and malted wheat provide the beer with its light body while the coriander and orange give the beer its citrus like aromas. We’ve also added some Oregon Marion blackberries, to give the brew a perfect balance between its subtly sweet and tart flavors.

really enjoyed this brew, strong aroma, imemdiately hit me with Blackberry flavor...not just a hint but a nice punch! A nice surprise after the overly pungent SA Cherry Wheat tasting. BB Witbier however seems more suited for a seasonal winter brew accompanying Oktoberfest, not sure why it was offered all summer long in local stores.

12oz bottle. Pours a hazy orange-copper body with a finger-width, white, creamy head that dissipates slowly and leaves a good amount of lacing. Aroma is mainly a mixture of wheat grains and blackberry fruits. A bit syrupy with some raspberry and just a light acidic orange. Flavor is decently tasty without ever getting too "fruity." Medium sweet wheat malt, a bit of syrupy blackberry, bread, and just a hint of acidic citrus in the bready, semi-dry, light spiced finish. The aftertaste is a medium duration of bready berries and a light spiced orange. Medium bodied and creamy. Overall, not bad for a fruit beer. Enough malts to keep this from being too fruity. A nice, subtle beer with an expected BBC body and balance.

Bottle [12oz]. Pours a cloudy orange-copper with an average size mostly-lasting frothy white head. Sweet aroma of berries, a bit sugary, along with wheat and a hint of spice. Slightly watery flavour of wheat and berries along with some light hops in the finish. Average bodied. A bit sweet but it’s an otherwise fine Summer beer.

Bottle. Interesting copper-bronze color on this, with a slight haze. The berry aroma wafts quite a distant. Drinks with a bit of a creamy consistency, but the berry character kinda comes off a little, well, off ... I gotta agree with earlier raters, this comes across with more of a blueberry than blackberry flavor, but instead of being fruity, it’s almost funky. Still quite drinkable alternative for a hot day or with a nice berry-based dessert. (#3649, 8/23/2009)

Bottle. Pours a translucent light amber with a two finger, off-white head that has okay retention and little to no lacing. Aroma of tart berries, grain, citrus. Taste is wheat, cereal grain, blueberries, spice, orange peel. Cardboard finish.

12oz bottle from Hannaford. Pours a hazy amber-yellow body with nearly an inch of off-white head. Blackberry dominates the aroma, with hints of spice and citrus in the background. Blackberry is rather dominant in the flavor as well, with a meshing with hints of cloves, orange, lemon zest... Medium in both mouthfeel and carbonation. Not the most drinkable example of the style, but quaffable enough. One thing comes to mind initially - Clearly Canadian soda. That said, it’s a decent enough beer if you want something sweet and fruity.

A cloudy, golden amber tinted beer that pours with a thin fizzy head that holds well. Aroma of dry, sweet blackberries and malt. Flavor is malty, citrusy, and well balanced. Palate is a little fizzy and so is the finish. Better than most "fruit" beers, but thats because it is a witbier to begin with.

Bottle… Cloudy golden ale with a huge, fluffy, white head. Fantastic retention. The aroma is soapy with a decent dose of blackberry. Medium-bodied with soft carbonation. The flavor is sweet, fruity, bready and grainy – just a touch tangy. Finishes lightly tart and then dry.
