jehoey (711), Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 20, 2008 had sample at selins grove brewfest: aroma was avinous with lots of blackberry. poured light and hazy as you would expect a wit beer to pour. flavor was less intense than the aroma, but the same, big vinous berrry flavors, which I thought were somewhat muddled with the coriander. mean bodied and lots of carbonation. I didn’t vote for this one.
kiefdog (421), Tampa, Florida, USA Aug 31, 2008 Sampled on a recent trip to the brewery. Pours a golden color with a white head. Aroma is decidedly ripe fruit, raspberries and blackberries. Flavor is much of the same with some bready and grassy notes. This was a very god wheat ale: hope to see it in stores someday. Beerman6686 (724), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 28, 2008 POured a pretty weak golden color with a white head. Aroma was straight blackberry syrup. Flavor was much the same a little spice and wheatiness mixed in but just way to sweet and one dimensional FunkyBrewster (122), Chicago, Illinois, USA Aug 27, 2008 Pours a pale yellow orange and somewhat cloudy with a small white froth. Aroma is mildly tart with a bit of bite. This gave me high hopes. Some fruity notes behind the wheat, however it was a little too candy or pop-tart filling fruity. Flavor started out sweet and malty, and I still had my hopes up. Some mild fruit berry flavors mid swallow. The spiciness that they advertised was very subtle. In the finish that tartness starts to build and I was ready to be excited, and then.....nothing. I know it is a witbier and they aren’t tart but c’mon, blackberry’s have to be more tart! Anyway, medium body and low-medium carbonation. I was just disappointed. I ended up voting for the coffee stout, which was okay, and still managed to have more complexity than this one. I really wanted to like it more, and it wasn’t bad, just fell short. I like the nifty bottle opener they gave me though :) swoopjones (1115), Buffalo, New York, USA Aug 26, 2008 Sample A bottle. Pours a nice golden orange. Perfumy spritzy aroma of blackberry & some additional fruitiness. Taste has nice berry flavor & some wit crispiness. Decent but a little toosweet & perfumy. Bring back the boysenberry Miver (393), WillowStreet, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 20, 2008 Sampled at Sam Adams R&D Brewery in Boston. Poured hazy gold in color with a small head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of berries, wheat and some fruity esters. Taste is pretty much the same. Body was a little thin.
