Commercial Description:
Samuel Adams® Boston Ale was first brewed to celebrate the opening of our Boston Brewery. Like Samuel Adams Boston Lager®, it was an old family recipe that was rescued by Jim Koch from his father’s attic. Samuel Adams® Boston Ale, a Stock Ale, has a complex, caramel malt character balanced with distinct spicy and herbal hop notes. Our proprietary ale yeast imparts a variety of fruit and ester notes in both the nose and flavor which are indicative of the style. Stock Ale, one of the few classic beer styles to have originated in the United States, has a strong New England heritage. The style draws its name from the cool "stock cellars" in which it was aged. This technique imparted a smoothness and body which became the hallmark of this style. Keeping with the Stock Ale style, Samuel Adams® Boston Ale is fermented at cooler almost lager like temperatures and conditioned much longer than most ales. It also is Krausened and dry hopped.

Pours a clear amber and orange color. Aroma is of brown sugar, plums and lightly roasted malts. Flavor is plentiful, with a nice roast and a slight sweetness. Very good.

Pours a clear copper to amber color with a thick off white head and excellent lacing. Very malty aroma with hints of baked bread. Taste is also very malty, with toffee and caramel flavors offset with a slight bitterness. Good carbonation and small bubbles continue to appear long after pouring.

Amber pour with a light head. A fruity nose. Flavor is very sweet with heavy fruit, specifically cherry, influence. Light spiciness and heavy dose of caramel. Almost cloying in a way. Not a bad beer, but nothing I’d drink regularly.

pours a nice amber, with a one finger head, somewhat quickly fading. the caramel malt in the aroma is a little overpowering, with hints of fruit, it seems like mostly cherry. The stock ale style is by far one of my favorites, the combination of the smooth and robust flavors is a perfect balance. initially caramel flavors, with other hints of sweetness. Finishes with a slight bitterness. The only criticism is that its a little two sweet. great style, good beer.

A nice, solid beer from by far the best large commercial brewer in America. Bit of caramel, malt, hops, and pleasant bitterness, good mouthfeel, not too hard but not too soft, either. Even people who like a light beer without much bitterness may well enjoy it, but those who like a strong stout won’t be bored. A crowd-pleaser in most cases.

Tolerable, but only if nothing else is around. Still rates higher than anything Bud or Pabst ever created.

Pours a very clear amber with medium off-white, creamy head. Medium smell, bitter throughout, including lasting finish. Malty, caramel flavoring but bitter. Good lacing throughout. Medium body. A bit above average, possibly buy again or at a pub. Yes, bitter. Cheers!

This is one of the skunkiest Sam Adams in my opinion. This beer reeks. Medium mouth, caramel malts, slight spices and bitterness. Unpleasant metallic taste. On the low end of the Samuel Adams totem pole.
