Commercial Description:
Samuel Adams® Boston Ale was first brewed to celebrate the opening of our Boston Brewery. Like Samuel Adams Boston Lager®, it was an old family recipe that was rescued by Jim Koch from his father’s attic. Samuel Adams® Boston Ale, a Stock Ale, has a complex, caramel malt character balanced with distinct spicy and herbal hop notes. Our proprietary ale yeast imparts a variety of fruit and ester notes in both the nose and flavor which are indicative of the style. Stock Ale, one of the few classic beer styles to have originated in the United States, has a strong New England heritage. The style draws its name from the cool "stock cellars" in which it was aged. This technique imparted a smoothness and body which became the hallmark of this style. Keeping with the Stock Ale style, Samuel Adams® Boston Ale is fermented at cooler almost lager like temperatures and conditioned much longer than most ales. It also is Krausened and dry hopped.

330 mL. Pours a decent amber with a small, off-white head that sort of lasts. Aroma of biscuit, spicy hops, and caramel. Taste is insanely metallic. Lots of expired, skunked, spicy hops and copper wire. Absolutely terrible. Five people in the house agreed that this was worthy of a drain pour. Major failure.

Bottle. Pours a clear amber with a one finger off-white head that leaves good lacing. Aroma of sweet malt, caramel, toasted malt, and spicy hops. Taste is the same as aroma. Medium mouthfeel with a mild amount of bitterness. Good.

12oz bottle. Poured a semi hazy amber orange color with an offwhite head. Smell is lightly sweet and biscuity malty. Taste is biscuity bread with some light hop flavoring. Mouthfeel is pretty good, and it is an easy drinking beer.

A smooth ale that reminds me of an English strong. Golden frothy pour. Delightful balance of caramel malts and floral hops, more rounded than their flagship lager. A straightforward ale, almost session in definition, with the exception of its lingering hops.

Bottled at Texas Smoke house Sickla. Light amber in colour, big thick head. Fruity aroma. Good session beer.

Pours amber with an eggshell colored head. The nose is a bit more subdued than their flagship Boston Lager, as is the flavor. A bit more bitterness too. Medium body, bitter finish.

Hints of spicy and floral hops on the nose. Initial surge of rich malt fades to a lingering hint of caramel and fruit. Very smooth and drinkable...probably one of the better session beers that is widely available.

Look is amber colored with a decent whit head. Aroma is malts, caramel, toast, and a touch of hops. Taste is little hop bitterness, fruit, caramel, and malts. Ok.
