Commercial Description:
Samuel Adams® Boston Ale was first brewed to celebrate the opening of our Boston Brewery. Like Samuel Adams Boston Lager®, it was an old family recipe that was rescued by Jim Koch from his father’s attic. Samuel Adams® Boston Ale, a Stock Ale, has a complex, caramel malt character balanced with distinct spicy and herbal hop notes. Our proprietary ale yeast imparts a variety of fruit and ester notes in both the nose and flavor which are indicative of the style. Stock Ale, one of the few classic beer styles to have originated in the United States, has a strong New England heritage. The style draws its name from the cool "stock cellars" in which it was aged. This technique imparted a smoothness and body which became the hallmark of this style. Keeping with the Stock Ale style, Samuel Adams® Boston Ale is fermented at cooler almost lager like temperatures and conditioned much longer than most ales. It also is Krausened and dry hopped.

Finally got to try this after a zillion years. Decent ale, medium hoppy, some of the same character as the Boston lager- must be the vest.

This is a very nice, very tasty, balanced ale that is among the closer US beers I’ve had to a good English pale ale or bitter. It is copper amber with a big, off-white head slowly shrinking. The aroma is very fruity and leafy with tea, citrus, hints of grapefruit, pine and bread. The taste is earthy, leafy, with bread, fruit, a little citrus and pine, with some caramelly-bready sweetnmess and solid, clean, leafy bitterness. It somewhat resembles the Shipyard Old Thumper as well as Old Speckled Hen or even, a bit, Abbot Ale.

(Bottle). Malty sweet aroma. Orange amber color, not much head. Restrained flavor of fruits, malt, some caramel and some spiciness Finish is quite nice, though a little mild. Definitely pleasant and very drinkable.

Amber pour with a slightly roasted malt nose and a nice head, crisp and balanced, some hint of fruit and spice.

Previously I was not a Sam Adams fan but I really liked this one..even though it was out of my lighter beer wheelhouse. Easy to drink, lots of tiny bubbles (for those of you who care). An interesting (burnt?) after taste. Really good beer that would go good with food or by itself.

Unexpected roasted and caramel flavors. There is a creamy texture to it also found in the aroma. Not a brilliant beer but a solid effort.
