Commercial Description:
Samuel Adams® Boston Ale was first brewed to celebrate the opening of our Boston Brewery. Like Samuel Adams Boston Lager®, it was an old family recipe that was rescued by Jim Koch from his father’s attic. Samuel Adams® Boston Ale, a Stock Ale, has a complex, caramel malt character balanced with distinct spicy and herbal hop notes. Our proprietary ale yeast imparts a variety of fruit and ester notes in both the nose and flavor which are indicative of the style. Stock Ale, one of the few classic beer styles to have originated in the United States, has a strong New England heritage. The style draws its name from the cool "stock cellars" in which it was aged. This technique imparted a smoothness and body which became the hallmark of this style. Keeping with the Stock Ale style, Samuel Adams® Boston Ale is fermented at cooler almost lager like temperatures and conditioned much longer than most ales. It also is Krausened and dry hopped.

Thick off-white head on an reddis amber body. Fruity, a bit sweet, hints of caramel, well balanced, a pleasure to drink at any time.

Was expecting something else out of this, though not dissapointed. Fruity flavor and a pleasant bitterness. Would try again

On tap at a Samuel Adams Bar at Newark International Airport. Dark, reddish golden body with a dense white head. Flavor is fruity, sweetish malt with some caramel and a gentle but decent bitterness. Surprisingly well balanced, quaffable and decent finish.

This beer is representative of most Sam Adams beers; a bit lacking in hops, caramel/toffee malt flavors with a bit of cardboard thrown in for "complexity". Smooth, drinkable, uneventful.

12oz Bottle: Clear amber w/ a small off-white head that falls away quickly. Sweet malts & mild spicy hops in the aroma. Flavor mimicks the aroma w/ a slightly bitter/metallic finish. I’ve been wanting to try this for awhile now & it turns out I’d rather have the Boston Lager...
