Commercial Description:
Samuel Adams® Boston Ale was first brewed to celebrate the opening of our Boston Brewery. Like Samuel Adams Boston Lager®, it was an old family recipe that was rescued by Jim Koch from his father’s attic. Samuel Adams® Boston Ale, a Stock Ale, has a complex, caramel malt character balanced with distinct spicy and herbal hop notes. Our proprietary ale yeast imparts a variety of fruit and ester notes in both the nose and flavor which are indicative of the style. Stock Ale, one of the few classic beer styles to have originated in the United States, has a strong New England heritage. The style draws its name from the cool "stock cellars" in which it was aged. This technique imparted a smoothness and body which became the hallmark of this style. Keeping with the Stock Ale style, Samuel Adams® Boston Ale is fermented at cooler almost lager like temperatures and conditioned much longer than most ales. It also is Krausened and dry hopped.

Draught @ a hotel bar under the name Piccadilly Pub ale. Boring weak malts and light hopping. Not what I anticipated. Weak and Macro.

Pours copper color with a cream colored head that lasts. Kind of a bland aroma, some malt and a hint of hops at the finish. Similar taste, some sweet caramel malts, some hops, nothing special. Drinkable, but hardly memorable.

On tap. Pours a cloudy caramel color with a foamy head. Lifeless aroma with a minimal hint of malt. Taste is weak, with a bitter start and a watery finish.

Don’t pick up much in the aroma other than malt. Appearance is beat\iful caramel and very clear. Initial maltiness comes through but I expected more hops with all the advertising. I ffeel the lager counterpart has more hop aroma. Overall a pretty good beer fro what it is.

Golden amber color with a thick white head. It had a caramel and malty aroma. The taste was kind of malt, caramel, and banana flavor. I haven’t had a Sam Adams yet that I didn’t like.

2008 Bottle - Pours a browning yellow with a sizeable off white head, aroma is metallic malt and slight citrus malt, taste follows...very straight-forward, malted bitter on the front end, finished grainy and astringent on the back...not terrible but pretty forgettable...
