Commercial Description:
Samuel Adams® Boston Ale was first brewed to celebrate the opening of our Boston Brewery. Like Samuel Adams Boston Lager®, it was an old family recipe that was rescued by Jim Koch from his father’s attic. Samuel Adams® Boston Ale, a Stock Ale, has a complex, caramel malt character balanced with distinct spicy and herbal hop notes. Our proprietary ale yeast imparts a variety of fruit and ester notes in both the nose and flavor which are indicative of the style. Stock Ale, one of the few classic beer styles to have originated in the United States, has a strong New England heritage. The style draws its name from the cool "stock cellars" in which it was aged. This technique imparted a smoothness and body which became the hallmark of this style. Keeping with the Stock Ale style, Samuel Adams® Boston Ale is fermented at cooler almost lager like temperatures and conditioned much longer than most ales. It also is Krausened and dry hopped.

A fair beer. I agree that it is boring. Nice little head, dark golden color. Better than alot of others. Its solid, but I wouldnt drink more than one in a sitting.

Golden amber color with a thick white head. It had a caramel and malty aroma. The taste was kind of malt, caramel, and banana flavor. I haven’t had a Sam Adams yet that I didn’t like.

2008 Bottle - Pours a browning yellow with a sizeable off white head, aroma is metallic malt and slight citrus malt, taste follows...very straight-forward, malted bitter on the front end, finished grainy and astringent on the back...not terrible but pretty forgettable...

Nice pale color with a soft white head leaving a nice lacing. Toffee, caramel, and light floral hops in the nose. Much of the same in the taste, with a slight hoppy finish. High carbonation and medium bodied. Pretty solid choice here, I could have this on occasion.

The old standby. This is one of my favorite SA beers, and it is actually somewhat hard to find. It has an earthiness that the lager doesn’t have, but it is hopped perfectly with alot of carbonation. A classic
