Commercial Description:
Samuel AdamsŪ Boston Ale was first brewed to celebrate the opening of our Boston Brewery. Like Samuel Adams Boston LagerŪ, it was an old family recipe that was rescued by Jim Koch from his father’s attic. Samuel AdamsŪ Boston Ale, a Stock Ale, has a complex, caramel malt character balanced with distinct spicy and herbal hop notes. Our proprietary ale yeast imparts a variety of fruit and ester notes in both the nose and flavor which are indicative of the style. Stock Ale, one of the few classic beer styles to have originated in the United States, has a strong New England heritage. The style draws its name from the cool "stock cellars" in which it was aged. This technique imparted a smoothness and body which became the hallmark of this style. Keeping with the Stock Ale style, Samuel AdamsŪ Boston Ale is fermented at cooler almost lager like temperatures and conditioned much longer than most ales. It also is Krausened and dry hopped.

Nice pale color with a soft white head leaving a nice lacing. Toffee, caramel, and light floral hops in the nose. Much of the same in the taste, with a slight hoppy finish. High carbonation and medium bodied. Pretty solid choice here, I could have this on occasion.

The old standby. This is one of my favorite SA beers, and it is actually somewhat hard to find. It has an earthiness that the lager doesn’t have, but it is hopped perfectly with alot of carbonation. A classic

Very used to the boston lager, sampled the boston ale from a 12 oz bottle from the sampler pack. Pours a ruby brown color with a proper head. Aroma is hops and caramel malts. Very straightforward beer, balanced. Has alcohol and quality hops. Some pennies in the aftertaste. Pretty good.

I prefer this over the Boston Lager and am puzzled why the lager makes such wide distribution over the ale. Not much flavor, but nice brown pour and malty aroma.

pours a dark caramel color with a foamy, off-white head. Pretty basic ale and very smooth. A bit lean on flavor but extremely drinkable. Good ale overall.

Pours dark amber with modest head. Aroma was malt with a bit of hops. Not too complex. Flavor was much the same- astringent though. Malty and refreshing but lacking in flavor and character.
