Commercial Description:
Samuel Adams® Boston Ale was first brewed to celebrate the opening of our Boston Brewery. Like Samuel Adams Boston Lager®, it was an old family recipe that was rescued by Jim Koch from his father’s attic. Samuel Adams® Boston Ale, a Stock Ale, has a complex, caramel malt character balanced with distinct spicy and herbal hop notes. Our proprietary ale yeast imparts a variety of fruit and ester notes in both the nose and flavor which are indicative of the style. Stock Ale, one of the few classic beer styles to have originated in the United States, has a strong New England heritage. The style draws its name from the cool "stock cellars" in which it was aged. This technique imparted a smoothness and body which became the hallmark of this style. Keeping with the Stock Ale style, Samuel Adams® Boston Ale is fermented at cooler almost lager like temperatures and conditioned much longer than most ales. It also is Krausened and dry hopped.

It’s an ale. I would imagine this to be a great session beer, but nothing too special.

Rich amber color with a medium white head from a bottle. Smell was of sweet caramel like malt, and almost a touch of alcohol or tartness to go along with it. Taste was very mild bittering hops, but mostly of sweet sticky caramel, and a touch of unique tartness. Definitely a slightly unique amber, from my experiences, and I’d say, slightly above average as well.

A clear copper-brown beer with an average off-white frothy head that leaves lace. The aroma is pretty weak, a hint of spicy hops and some malt. The flavor is mostly malty roast notes, with hop bitterness in the background. Waste of time.

Clear dark amber.Off-white head.Sweet aroma of caramel, dough, slight hint of fruit. The flavor is more bitter than the aroma lets on.Good balance of sweet and bitter.Smooth, medium body.Dry,bitter finish but not unpleasant.Nicely done.I prefer this to the Boston Lager.

Bottle from Whole Foods in Charlottesville. Reddish amber color with a good amount of head and decent retention. Caramelly fruity aroma with notes of banana esters. Taste is very much the same with a touch of rye and a bitterness which seems a bit off.

A nice standard ale. A very good buy when these are on sale, hard to beat for the price. Very hoppy, but not ridiculous like some get. The bottle is very nice. Not a lot of head, about typical for a decent ale though.
