Commercial Description:
Samuel Adams® Boston Ale was first brewed to celebrate the opening of our Boston Brewery. Like Samuel Adams Boston Lager®, it was an old family recipe that was rescued by Jim Koch from his father’s attic. Samuel Adams® Boston Ale, a Stock Ale, has a complex, caramel malt character balanced with distinct spicy and herbal hop notes. Our proprietary ale yeast imparts a variety of fruit and ester notes in both the nose and flavor which are indicative of the style. Stock Ale, one of the few classic beer styles to have originated in the United States, has a strong New England heritage. The style draws its name from the cool "stock cellars" in which it was aged. This technique imparted a smoothness and body which became the hallmark of this style. Keeping with the Stock Ale style, Samuel Adams® Boston Ale is fermented at cooler almost lager like temperatures and conditioned much longer than most ales. It also is Krausened and dry hopped.

Bottle, #381 Don’t know how it took so long for me to rate this... Orange pour with nice head. Malty aroma and flavor. A good session brew.

Bottled. A bit cloudy orange beer with a small white head. Nice lacing. Caramel sweet malty aroma has toffy or honey notes. Faint aromas of dried fruits. Dryish finish wih medium bitteration and honey. Medium bodied and a bit too much Co2. Smooth mouthfeel with a bit sticky finish. Nice beer.

Bottle pours a clear golden amber color with a small white head. Lacing lingers along the glass. Aroma of sweet roasted malts and caramel. Flavor is well balanced with flavors of malt and hops coming through. Very smooth and drinkable.

Bottle. Nice aroma of rich, sweet malt, fruity and nutty, toffee-ish as well. Flavor had a touch of a weird, metallic off flavor, but enough of the malt came through so as not to drop it too much. Really did feel like the ale version of Boston Lager, and could be really good if it wasn’t for that off taste. Nobody else notes it though, so I’ll give it another go sometime.

Bottle pours a nice amber color with a white head. Head dissipates slowly. Smells like subtle hints of caramel malts. Tastes like your average malt beverage with little to no hop presence. Overall this is a fairly average brew.

Found it to be very similar to Sam Adam’s Boston Lager. Drank them in succession, although I was slightly intoxicated. This is a very drinkable beer, maybe a little less hoppy than the lager (which I also enjoy). Solid, but nothing spectacular.
