Commercial Description:
Samuel Adams® Boston Ale was first brewed to celebrate the opening of our Boston Brewery. Like Samuel Adams Boston Lager®, it was an old family recipe that was rescued by Jim Koch from his father’s attic. Samuel Adams® Boston Ale, a Stock Ale, has a complex, caramel malt character balanced with distinct spicy and herbal hop notes. Our proprietary ale yeast imparts a variety of fruit and ester notes in both the nose and flavor which are indicative of the style. Stock Ale, one of the few classic beer styles to have originated in the United States, has a strong New England heritage. The style draws its name from the cool "stock cellars" in which it was aged. This technique imparted a smoothness and body which became the hallmark of this style. Keeping with the Stock Ale style, Samuel Adams® Boston Ale is fermented at cooler almost lager like temperatures and conditioned much longer than most ales. It also is Krausened and dry hopped.

cloudy copper orange, off-white long lasting head. Yeasty, smooth and soft, sweet, hoppy. Sweet after taste.

Back in my gateway days, this was one of my favorite beers. Nowadays, it is just okay, slightly bland and boring to my palate now. Pretty crisp and clean, nothing to put you off, just an easy drinking caramel malt slash cascade hopped amber. Nothing more to it than that.

Bottle. Pours a hazy amber with decient off-white head, minimal retention. Floral yeasty aroma that wasn’t bad at all. Flavor was of caramel malt, citris hops with slight bitter. Medium body, medium carbonation. Not bad at all....

Bottle, 12 oz. Pours hazy and heavily particulate. Amber in color with a creamy, off-white diminishing head. Aroma dominated by hops and musty yeast with some malt. I seem to be getting a pear-like aroma as well. Creamy and medium bodied with clean, somewhat bitter finish. Nice session ale.

(cleaning out my beer bottle collection as pictured in my profile and utilizing ratebeer.com) As I recall, this is very unique. A nice amber ale that is although not smooth, is complex and refreshing.

pours a clear caramel color with a healthy off white head. Has a nice aroma with a noticeable fruit presence and some raisins. Taste is medium bitter and rather dry. Its ok, not the best of the lineup.

An authentic and truely enjoyable ale. A classic throughout from start to finish. It just feels right to drink this ale. A classic New England beer. Cheers!

Another solid Sam Adams entry. A good mass produced ale. Aromas of caramel and carries through to the initial taste hit of a bitter hop aftertaste.
