Commercial Description:
Samuel Adams® Boston Ale was first brewed to celebrate the opening of our Boston Brewery. Like Samuel Adams Boston Lager®, it was an old family recipe that was rescued by Jim Koch from his father’s attic. Samuel Adams® Boston Ale, a Stock Ale, has a complex, caramel malt character balanced with distinct spicy and herbal hop notes. Our proprietary ale yeast imparts a variety of fruit and ester notes in both the nose and flavor which are indicative of the style. Stock Ale, one of the few classic beer styles to have originated in the United States, has a strong New England heritage. The style draws its name from the cool "stock cellars" in which it was aged. This technique imparted a smoothness and body which became the hallmark of this style. Keeping with the Stock Ale style, Samuel Adams® Boston Ale is fermented at cooler almost lager like temperatures and conditioned much longer than most ales. It also is Krausened and dry hopped.

Orange-copper color, frosty head, clean hoppy taste that goes down smooth. Sam Adams is always entertaining my month, no difference with this beer!

12 oz, bb Mar08. Orange-new copper with a small, persistent head and nice glass frosting. Butterscotch-caramel, a bit of apple, and slight spicy herb on the nose. Flavor is earthy-spicy caramel on the front; turning to bittersweet apple core; then more caramel with sour apple; and a dry, slighty minty herb on the finish. Smooth, light-medium body has a little hop tingle and a sweeping dry finish that works well on all the typically British malt-yeast flavors.

Amber in color, faint head and a light sweet and hoppy nose. Flavor is clean but not something I feel is all that memorable. Balanced overall. Not spectacular but what I’d expect from SA.

A really good beer that is an everyday drinking beer. It doesn’t blow you away with the first sip, but it has great staying power.

Pours amber with a small head. Hoppy aroma. Nice, thirst-quenching bitterness. Very drinkable.

12oz BB Jul - Reddish gold liquid under light tan head, no real nose, light wood maybe, nice lacing down the glass, really limp body with a brief flash of hops and then nothing. A little more structure than the Irish Red I tasted before. Forgettable.

Pours a clear, medium amber color. A foamy, off-white head shows surprisingly good retention and leaves sticky traces of lacing behind. The aroma shows toasted pale malts, sweet caramel, bready yeast, light cream, and mild floral hops. There might also be a drop of honey in there as well. The flavor imparts a mildly bitter floral hop kick over sweet caramel and dry, bready grains. Drinks pretty smooth. Lighter bodied and even keeled, I could probably session this at a bar if there were no better options. Finishes short and dry, with a sour little twang fading quickly. Decent little amber.

Bottle. Amber color with a white head. Fruity aroma with spicy hop and caramel malt. Medium carbonation. Not harsh to the palate, but yet not creamy either. Nicely balanced flavor between the strong hops and the malt. But fruity, which made this an interesting ale. A nice treat.
