Commercial Description:
Samuel Adams® Boston Ale was first brewed to celebrate the opening of our Boston Brewery. Like Samuel Adams Boston Lager®, it was an old family recipe that was rescued by Jim Koch from his father’s attic. Samuel Adams® Boston Ale, a Stock Ale, has a complex, caramel malt character balanced with distinct spicy and herbal hop notes. Our proprietary ale yeast imparts a variety of fruit and ester notes in both the nose and flavor which are indicative of the style. Stock Ale, one of the few classic beer styles to have originated in the United States, has a strong New England heritage. The style draws its name from the cool "stock cellars" in which it was aged. This technique imparted a smoothness and body which became the hallmark of this style. Keeping with the Stock Ale style, Samuel Adams® Boston Ale is fermented at cooler almost lager like temperatures and conditioned much longer than most ales. It also is Krausened and dry hopped.

For me, this was a drastically different beer from the glass than from the bottle. It was definitely improved by drinking straight from the bottle, as more of the aroma was retained and the sharpness of the palate was mellowed as a result.

Two finger head from an aggressive pour, but it left a solid foam layer all the way down. Clear, deep copper color. Definite citrus aroma that also came through in the taste. Toasted malt flavors balanced the hops very well, but the bitterness wins out at the end. Very pleasant carbonation and body make this a very versatile beer that can be enjoyed by anyone pretty much anytime.

Pours rich amber, thick creamy head, good lacing. Aroma is light and hoppy, but hops are about it. Flavor isn’t anything to write home about, but its solid. Pretty much what you’d expect from a Samuel Adams. A bit of hop, a bit of malt. Very smooth beer though. Nice session brew, but nothing special.

Actually, I prefer the lager, but this one is good too. Maybe nothing special, but a decent american ale. A nice caramel flavor with hints of grapefruit and pine needle (?!). Maybe it’s just me, but I think so ... and actually I like it!

Bottle. Pours a hazy dolen color. Decent head dissappears almost entirely. Leaves a decent lacing. Aroma sweet malt and light hops. Flavor of malts and a bit of earth. Palate is medium. Decent carbonation on the mouth. Leaves a bit of a sour finish. Decent session beer. Thank you Grynder!

Pours a nice copper color with a off-white head. Nice bready malt aroma. Nice caramel malt flavor with a hint of hoppy spice. Slight bitter finish. Not bad. Thanks Brewblackhole!
