Commercial Description:
Samuel Adams® Boston Ale was first brewed to celebrate the opening of our Boston Brewery. Like Samuel Adams Boston Lager®, it was an old family recipe that was rescued by Jim Koch from his father’s attic. Samuel Adams® Boston Ale, a Stock Ale, has a complex, caramel malt character balanced with distinct spicy and herbal hop notes. Our proprietary ale yeast imparts a variety of fruit and ester notes in both the nose and flavor which are indicative of the style. Stock Ale, one of the few classic beer styles to have originated in the United States, has a strong New England heritage. The style draws its name from the cool "stock cellars" in which it was aged. This technique imparted a smoothness and body which became the hallmark of this style. Keeping with the Stock Ale style, Samuel Adams® Boston Ale is fermented at cooler almost lager like temperatures and conditioned much longer than most ales. It also is Krausened and dry hopped.

amber body, little head, aroma is fruit sweetness and malts, taste is hoppy (like bohemian pilsner bitterness) combined with some delicate seetnes and oily feel. seems strong for this alc content, taste is full and beer maintains nice lacing

A: Poured with an average-sized, off-white head, with a little lacing down the side of the glass over time. Body is clear, and a dark-orange color. S: Some light hops in there, maybe a tiny bit of citrus. Nothing fantastic. T: Taste is better than the aroma... starts off lightly sweet and malty, and end with some bitterness. Average duration of flavor... very nicely balance. M: Medium-bodied with a creamy texture, and average carbonation. D: Very easy to drink... the best thing about this beer is just how nicely balanced it is. The flavors and aroma may not be anything special, but there’s a perfect balance between the malt and the hops... easy to have several of these in a row.

Several bottles over the years. Smooth aroma and flavor weighted towards the caramel malt. Just a little bitterness in the finish. Dependable and very nice amber ale.

Suprised to see that I haven’t rated this one yet. Not sure how I missed this one. Bought a SA sampler pack and found 2 bottles in it, so here it goes. The body is clear with a amber body, 1" off-white head. Aroma is caramel and a light grassy/citrus note. Mostly caramel malts on the palate, a touch of citrus and bread.

12oz bottle. Pours a crystal clear, orange-ish amber body with a good amount of rising carbonation. Finger-width, off-white, fizzy head that dissipates quickly and leaves a good amount of lacing. Aroma is sweet caramels, an apricot toffee, a light toast, and a hint of herbal, hop spice. Flavor is smooth and caramel malty up front before a medium herbal bitterness comes in and finishes this off pretty stong. Some toasty caramel, grainy maltiness, spicy-nutty-citrusy taste in there as well. Finishes dry with plenty of herbal, apricot, spicy hop flavors while maintaining a smooth, caramel maltiness. Medium body. Overall, a tasty beer with a good amount of bitterness. Definitely more hops than the Boston Lager, but I’m not sure these two are comparable. Not bad.

Aromas of caramel and roasted malt. Poured a nice amber color with a fluffly white head that left some lacing. Hoppy flavors of toffee and some citrus. Dry, slightly bitter finish. Not quite as good as the Boston Lager, but a good beer nonetheless.

12oz bottle 8/30/09 (Binny’s Naperville)-Pours a medium amber iwth a small off white head. Aroma of roasted malt, hops, and caramel. Taste of the same with the hops being a bit more prominent than I thought they would. This medium bodied brew is better than I remembered but still not as good as the Lager.
