Commercial Description:
Samuel Adams® Boston Ale was first brewed to celebrate the opening of our Boston Brewery. Like Samuel Adams Boston Lager®, it was an old family recipe that was rescued by Jim Koch from his father’s attic. Samuel Adams® Boston Ale, a Stock Ale, has a complex, caramel malt character balanced with distinct spicy and herbal hop notes. Our proprietary ale yeast imparts a variety of fruit and ester notes in both the nose and flavor which are indicative of the style. Stock Ale, one of the few classic beer styles to have originated in the United States, has a strong New England heritage. The style draws its name from the cool "stock cellars" in which it was aged. This technique imparted a smoothness and body which became the hallmark of this style. Keeping with the Stock Ale style, Samuel Adams® Boston Ale is fermented at cooler almost lager like temperatures and conditioned much longer than most ales. It also is Krausened and dry hopped.

[Sampled in 2005.] Nice brew better than expected. Notes of honey, flowers, aromahops, thirst and another try one day!

light malt aroma with a bit of citrus hops. The filtered body is amber with a foamy white head. The flavor is also big malt flavor with a little bit of a strange metallic flavor. Maybe because of the tap.

0.33L bottle. Light brown colour with some orange streaks. strong hoppy aroma with some citrus notes. Taste is much too bitter with pronounced notes of grapefruit. Aftertaste is quite short. Nothing to write home about.

Pours a nice dark copper. Off white head with lots of lacing. Aroma is much too light for an ale, and unimpressive. Slight fruit and bread (SLIGHT!!!) in the nose, but nothing more. Very sweet for an ale. Some decent, yeast, malty, hoppy after-taste. A good dose of bitterness pushes this past a toatal score of 3. Good, but not great. And over-priced at $6.99 for a six pack.

12 oz bottle from my pops. Poured an orangish color with decent head. Tastes of caramel and fruit make up most of this beer. Kinda sweet and not hoppy at all. Decent beer

On Draft as "Pub Ale" at The Pub in Lexington, Ky. Light to medium body, dark amber in color. Sweet malty flavor with fruity hints.

Old notes from a variety pack - brown color with a malty, bready aroma. Flavor has alot of bready malt and some decent hops, but fades fast and is rather unmemorable.
