Commercial Description:
Samuel Adams® Boston Ale was first brewed to celebrate the opening of our Boston Brewery. Like Samuel Adams Boston Lager®, it was an old family recipe that was rescued by Jim Koch from his father’s attic. Samuel Adams® Boston Ale, a Stock Ale, has a complex, caramel malt character balanced with distinct spicy and herbal hop notes. Our proprietary ale yeast imparts a variety of fruit and ester notes in both the nose and flavor which are indicative of the style. Stock Ale, one of the few classic beer styles to have originated in the United States, has a strong New England heritage. The style draws its name from the cool "stock cellars" in which it was aged. This technique imparted a smoothness and body which became the hallmark of this style. Keeping with the Stock Ale style, Samuel Adams® Boston Ale is fermented at cooler almost lager like temperatures and conditioned much longer than most ales. It also is Krausened and dry hopped.

Bottle. One of the better U.S. beers, I was honestly quite shocked at how good this was after a guy at a bar in the States insisted I try it. Nice caramelly and malt flavour is this beer’s selling point.

It feels like tasting a little bit of history. The aroma is weaker than expected, a bit of yeasty bread. This beer looks like a not-dark ale should look, deep gold, a bit autumn red and clear as an Indian summer sky. The palate feels full, registers a kick, not a donkey kick, more, say, like your wife kicking you under the table when you say something stupid. (Not that I know how that feels or anything.) Flavor is round, bitter like good Colombian coffee, fresh ground. Raise a glass of this and know why America was and is worth fighting for from the Boston Tea Party, and even still.

A good standard Amber Ale, pours a deep copper colour with a two finger froathy head that bubbles down to a sticky white film. Good strong aroma of malts, which reflects the malty but well balanced malty flavour, straight forward but tasty and refreshing. A tad watery, but still the beer retains high drinkability.

Less sweet, more bitter than the Boston Lager- I like this one a bit better. Rich, roasted, caramel malt flavor followed by a subtle hop bitterness. Mmmmmm.

Not much to say that hasn’t been already. Amber color, nice malty sweet nose with hint of floral hops. Nice even balanced flavor, and decent finish.

Something is just missing from this. This is one of the first micros I drank, so it’ll always rate high in my mind, but there’s something missing to keep me from rating it higher.

Deep and clear amber color. Nose is very malty with hints of lemongrass and hops. Light to medium bodied, nicely carbonated. Pretty good, just missing some bang.

12oz bottle part of the summer mix pack, pours a darl golden color with a nice white lasting head, nice malt flavors, could see this as being a nice session beer, tastes good, would buy again if there wasn’t anything better.
