Commercial Description:
Samuel Adams® Boston Ale was first brewed to celebrate the opening of our Boston Brewery. Like Samuel Adams Boston Lager®, it was an old family recipe that was rescued by Jim Koch from his father’s attic. Samuel Adams® Boston Ale, a Stock Ale, has a complex, caramel malt character balanced with distinct spicy and herbal hop notes. Our proprietary ale yeast imparts a variety of fruit and ester notes in both the nose and flavor which are indicative of the style. Stock Ale, one of the few classic beer styles to have originated in the United States, has a strong New England heritage. The style draws its name from the cool "stock cellars" in which it was aged. This technique imparted a smoothness and body which became the hallmark of this style. Keeping with the Stock Ale style, Samuel Adams® Boston Ale is fermented at cooler almost lager like temperatures and conditioned much longer than most ales. It also is Krausened and dry hopped.

Draught @ Uno Chicago Grill: Ordered their house amber ale and got this instead.. interesting. Sadly, it came delivered in a plastic cup, so ranking it on appearance is somewhat difficult. I’ll assume a proper bar would pour me something befitting of Mr. Adams and rate it appropriately.. but seriously, what "bar" serves beer in plastic cups? Aroma of caramel sweetness and hops, almost an English-style to this point. Flavour was pretty good with a nice balance of malts and fruity sweetness, but the whole thing was a bit bland and without character. I actually didn’t even finish it, which is rare for me. I can only assume the bar is to blame, perhaps serving stale product?

Pours with a dark honey color and a well looking white head that doesn’t persist for very long. Tastes good but a little dull (Just a little!!!). Very drinkable. I drank this out of a shaker.

It had a dark gold color, and a medium thick head. It went down very smoothly but it had a little bitter after taste.

Pours a clear bronze color with a quickly diminishing white head. Sweet aroma with a trace of hops. Beer is relatively sweet with a bitter finish. Not too thin, not thick and chewy, a nice companion to Boston Lager.

A weird hoppy smell. The hoppy smell is kind of skunky if anyone knows what I am talking about. Decent aroma though, but doesn’t go past the hop smell. A ginger ale brown, with very little head. Now the beer has a unique taste, and I am telling you it is not one of my favorites. A weird hoppy flavor, but also a sweet butter type of taste. A weird flavor. The hops are nice, even though they are a little weak. Weak flavor, weak aroma, mediocre appearance entails a mediocre beer.

Bottle. Pours light copper with thick foamy white head. Nose is spicey hops, butter and light breadiness. Taste is round caramel malt with herbal and soapy hop flavors. Lightly bitter aftertaste. Pretty good session ale.
