Commercial Description:
Samuel Adams® Boston Ale was first brewed to celebrate the opening of our Boston Brewery. Like Samuel Adams Boston Lager®, it was an old family recipe that was rescued by Jim Koch from his father’s attic. Samuel Adams® Boston Ale, a Stock Ale, has a complex, caramel malt character balanced with distinct spicy and herbal hop notes. Our proprietary ale yeast imparts a variety of fruit and ester notes in both the nose and flavor which are indicative of the style. Stock Ale, one of the few classic beer styles to have originated in the United States, has a strong New England heritage. The style draws its name from the cool "stock cellars" in which it was aged. This technique imparted a smoothness and body which became the hallmark of this style. Keeping with the Stock Ale style, Samuel Adams® Boston Ale is fermented at cooler almost lager like temperatures and conditioned much longer than most ales. It also is Krausened and dry hopped.

Draught: Poured a light amber color with a thin off white head. Aroma was a mix of toffee, caramel, and hops. Taste was a nice smooth mix of caramel and hops. A nice beer, however the cost at the JFK airport is ridiculous...$10.33!

Bottle. Pours a copper color with a thin, foamy beige head. Taste is of malt, caramel and some hops. Rather bitter. Similar aroma. Decent mouthful. Reminds me a non-alcoholic. Drinkable, refreshing and slightly enjoyable, but not that great.

Bottle [12oz]. Pours a clear orange-amber with an average size frothy off-white head. Aroma is lightly sweet, floral and toasty with caramel malt, some grain and fruit. Flavour of caramel malt, grain and fruit along with a hint of metal, light hops and a light bitter finish. Medium bodied. A simple yet solid Ale, easy to drink and I’d gladly have it again.

I had been drinking this for a long, long time but realized I had not had drank it in a few years. It proves the old addage that you can’t go home again - the memories are better than the experience. From a 12 oz bottle. Pours a light amber/copper color. Head didappated rather quickly. No real aroma to speak of. Taste was very malty with almost no hope bite. This used to be my favorite beer and I do like Sam Adams but I have been drinking more hoppy beers lately and this just doesn’t cut it anymore.

Bottle ( 12oz ). Clear bright bubbly light copper-gold with a large lasting fluffy off-white head. Simple aroma of sweet grain and light floral bitterness. The taste is metallic, generic grain, a bit of alcohol. Average body and carbonation, some bitterness emerges in the linger, a bit syrupy. Not bad.

12. oz bottle from the Summer Sampler pack lured out of my girlfriend’s mothers basement. Pours a darker amber, a bit of haze, decent offwhite head that dies to a small layer, bit of lacing. Aromas are maltier, caramel sweetness and light toastiness team with some floral hops, light spiciness. Initial mirrors this, caramel malts, fruity undertones, with grassy and floral hops, balanced fairly well. A touch of spice that gets in the way for me, but overall pretty drinkable.

Poured a slightly hazy pale copper color with a short white head and minimal lacing. The aroma was of malts and some old hops. The flavor was malt, old hops and slightly oxidized or metallic. Thin mouthfeel, aggressive carbonation. Kind of meh.
