Commercial Description:
Samuel Adams Boston Lager® is the best example of the fundamental characteristics of a great beer, offering a full, rich flavor that is both balanced and complex. It is brewed using a decoction mash, a time consuming, traditional four vessel brewing process discarded by many contemporary brewers. This process brings forth a rich sweetness from the malt that makes it well worth the effort. Samuel Adams Boston Lager® also uses only the finest of ingredients including two row barley, as well as German Noble aroma hops. The exclusive use of two row barley not only imparts a full, smooth body but also gives the beer a wide spectrum of malt flavor ranging from slightly sweet to caramel to slightly roasted. The Noble hops varieties, Hallertau Mittelfruh and Tettnang Tettnanger, add a wide range of floral, piney and citrus notes, which are present from the aroma, through the flavor, to the lingering smooth finish. We take great pride in the Noble hops used in our beers. They are hand selected by Jim Koch and our other brewers from the world's oldest hops growing area. Among the world's most expensive, they cost twenty times as much as other hops.

This beer pours a nice light copper color, some reddish hue to it as well. Nice head that stays all the way until the end. Good hop nose, slightly grassy. A malty, bread-like aroma lingers in the background. The flavor is a mirror image of the nose; hops then malt. Good body, not heavy, though I have had some bottled versions that are slightly syrupy in nature. I’ve had Sam Adams on tap and in the bottle (this rating was of the bottled version). On tap, the hops come through a bit more, but the bottled version is a fine beer too.

Say, here’s a beer I haven’t had in a long time... and surprise, it’s pretty damn good. Pours more orange than golden with a middling foamy white head. Nose reveals some nice Hallertau hops, very floral and citrusy an lovely. I dig these hops. A low-key but very tasty beer, especially given the size of the brewer and the mass availability. Better than expected.

Bottle. Pours with a large white head over a clear bright dark amber body. A balanced light bready malt and spruce-resin aroma and taste.

Bottle. This should be the beer that represents traditional America. Not Bud or Miller. It is much more hoppy then these lagers and has much more richer, deeper taste. Love this beer.

Bottle. 4.8%. Clear amber pour with a weak white foam that bubbles away quickly. Aroma is hoppy, sweet caramel and roast malts. Taste disappoints quickly. UNbalanced, the super bitter hop bite starts early and lingers, with no delicate sweetness, or anything else of interest. Just lip-pursing bitterness and a weak malty kick. While drinkable, and probably palatable for hopheads, this beer fails to impress, and is rather boring.

Amberish coloured beer with small white head and medium carbonation. Hoppy sweet aroma. Full palate. Finish is hoppy though nicely balanced.

Draft @ ONT airport. Pours pretty nice dark amber, nice floaty head. Nose is a little weak, some maltiness, but not much else. Flavor is caramelly barley to start, with a nice dry hoppy bite to the finish. Very drinkable. Pretty decent.
