Commercial Description:
Samuel Adams Boston Lager® is the best example of the fundamental characteristics of a great beer, offering a full, rich flavor that is both balanced and complex. It is brewed using a decoction mash, a time consuming, traditional four vessel brewing process discarded by many contemporary brewers. This process brings forth a rich sweetness from the malt that makes it well worth the effort. Samuel Adams Boston Lager® also uses only the finest of ingredients including two row barley, as well as German Noble aroma hops. The exclusive use of two row barley not only imparts a full, smooth body but also gives the beer a wide spectrum of malt flavor ranging from slightly sweet to caramel to slightly roasted. The Noble hops varieties, Hallertau Mittelfruh and Tettnang Tettnanger, add a wide range of floral, piney and citrus notes, which are present from the aroma, through the flavor, to the lingering smooth finish. We take great pride in the Noble hops used in our beers. They are hand selected by Jim Koch and our other brewers from the world's oldest hops growing area. Among the world's most expensive, they cost twenty times as much as other hops.

Pours a clear copper with a small white head that doesn’t last long, but leaves a little lacing. Aroma of sweet, toasted, biscuit and cereal malts and a slight citrus note. Aroma is similar, more malty than hoppy. Good finish, decent drink.

Poured out a disappointingly small white head but I know in the past the pour has been better. Clear light amber brew with slippery lacing. Aromas of slight caramel and toasted malts, mixed citrus and a touch of cooked vegetables - comes across quite fresh. Taste is decent and mild with some caramel and maybe bread, citrus and a touch of peppery spice. It’s all just one big mashed up flavour. More cooked vegetables. The main difference between the taste and the aroma is the aroma is sweeter and the taste has a larger hop presence. Mouth feel is quite light and airy with a big carbonated swish and light to medium light bodied. Finishes dull with a bit of lingering bitterness.

12 oz bottle after working in the yard. Golden amber and big head. Thick. Sweet floral, sugar, fruity, and hops. Was just fine on a hot afternoon.

Really? I haven’t rated Boston lager yet? Huh? Pours a deep gold with a nice effervescence and a big fluffy white head. Aroma is really good, fruity and hoppy, some mild malt graininess, in a good way. Flavor has that nice fruity hoppiness, plenty of bitterness, once again a bright almost grainy maltiness. Mild roasty and caramel characteristics are playing around in the background, but from day one the hoppiness of this beer has always been what dominates the flavor, I really enjoy this one from time to time.

Yellow with a huge head. Flowery nose with grass and hay. The flavour is bitter and fruity, but also with some sweet cracker-feeling.
