Commercial Description:
Samuel Adams Boston Lager® is the best example of the fundamental characteristics of a great beer, offering a full, rich flavor that is both balanced and complex. It is brewed using a decoction mash, a time consuming, traditional four vessel brewing process discarded by many contemporary brewers. This process brings forth a rich sweetness from the malt that makes it well worth the effort. Samuel Adams Boston Lager® also uses only the finest of ingredients including two row barley, as well as German Noble aroma hops. The exclusive use of two row barley not only imparts a full, smooth body but also gives the beer a wide spectrum of malt flavor ranging from slightly sweet to caramel to slightly roasted. The Noble hops varieties, Hallertau Mittelfruh and Tettnang Tettnanger, add a wide range of floral, piney and citrus notes, which are present from the aroma, through the flavor, to the lingering smooth finish. We take great pride in the Noble hops used in our beers. They are hand selected by Jim Koch and our other brewers from the world's oldest hops growing area. Among the world's most expensive, they cost twenty times as much as other hops.

You know this beer is good right when you pour it in the glass. Dark amber color with thick head. The aroma is exceptional, sort of sweet and hoppy. Definitely one of the best lager’s around! I can’t wait to try more of the sam adams line

Much better than most American lagers I’ve had. A lot more color to it as well. I am very happy with this beer. Very nice hop and malt balance. A sweeter taste without all that rice and corn filler. Also a bit creamier than most lagers.

On tap. It has been awhile since I had this beer. While it is certainly not in the league of delicious craft brew, it is a big notch above macro stuff. Grain and yeast flavors with a tad hop nose and aftertaste.

Color is red and yellowish gold, clear amber. Smell is caramel with a hint of grain and hops. The taste is a bit sweet at first and then a bit bitter once it rolls around on your tongue. Nice toasty malt taste. Smooth drinkability. Well balanced. This is a beer I have often and is one of the best beers to have with a meal as well. Serving type: bottle

Well, an OK beer. Enjoyably drinkable, but a little lacking when it comes to complexity of flavor and aroma; however, that’s in comparison to the ale family. Consistency was a little thin and watery; palate could have been better. ---- When warmed a bit, palate is less watery and a flavor balance between malt and hops is discernible. Aroma also improves.

Beautiful floral hop bouquet, light two-row malt aroma as well. Very inviting. Light amber with a slight chill haze. Very nice chalk-white head that lasts. The flavor is smooth malt with a slight hop bite. Very clean tasting beer that does not have a long lasting aftertaste. The noble hops are noteable in the finish. High level of carbonation. Very well balanced beer.
